I got my cats a Cat Dancer a couple of days ago and when I play with them, it seems to be causing my female, Cleo, to pant like she's out of breath. She's never done this before, and Alex doesn't pant at all. In fact, I thought cats never pant like dogs do. Is this something to be concerned about or am I overreacting? She seems fine now, but she was still panting on an off a few minutes after a play session with the Cat Dancer. I plan to call the vet Monday, but just for some peace of mind until then, what do you all think?

My cats do that when they play really hard. I don't think it's anything to worry about they just get out of breath from hard playing.

Thanks everyone. I feel much better now. I guess I'm a very overprotective owner, but it's nice to know that I can get help from such wonderful people on this site. Thanks again!

My cats do that also Music teacher. My vet told me that cats pant both when they're out of breath and when they work themselves up, as in when they get really excited and hyper. One of my cats does it whenever he gets put into the cat carrier. He gets himself all worked up and freaked out and starts panting even though he's perfectly fine. So don't worry!

I play with my kitty until he starts panting, and also the best time to clip their claws when their panting, will not resist as much.

I was just wondering what a cat dancer is?

And, my little one always pants when she's playing with the laser light. I was concerned also at first, because the other ones didnt, but she seems fine after she settles down.

Thanks everybody. Salem, a Cat Dancer is made up of a semi-flexible wire with little cardboard twists on the end of it (the look like little tiny cigars, but are just twisted cardboard.) The motion of the carboard twisty things as the wire bends and flexs resembles insects and birds to the cat. My cats go crazy over it. It's a very simple and inexpensive toy (only about $2.50 where I bought it) but it seems to give kitties a good workout.

Hmm, I never thought of trying it after playing...will have to see how it goes.

I saw the Cat Dancer and wasn't sure how much my kitties would like it...do most cats go nuts over it?

My kitties both pant when they've been playing too hard.

My first cat used to pant after playing and on a hot day. My kitten Buddy was panting yesterday for the first time after chasing after his wand toy with the mouse attached, he went crazy over it. He also loves his cat dancer. I don't know a cat that doesn't. Mine flips out over it, literally

Ok, this was really funny! I looked all over for the 'Cat Dancer' toy last night and couldnt find it, so I ended up getting the 'Twirl and Whirl' instead for now. This is what it looked like when I put it together this morning....

And when I came out here a few minutes ago, this is what I found....

Sahara destroyed it in a matter no time!
