God Bless you! Thank you for stopping. I'm sure the man's wife will never forget you! Shame on other motorists for not stopping!!! I live in Waukesha and if I would have seen such an occurance, I would have stopped (I'malso certified by the red cross in CPR and first aid).

I know somewhat what it's like. My car broke down on HWY 41-45 while returning to college. I had no cell phone at the time. I knew something weas wrong (my tie-rod snapped) as my front wheels were pointed in opposite directions. I was a little over 2 miles to the next exit. I walked about a mile before a state trooper pulled over. I was quite upset as it was, but then he yelled at me for not hearing him on his speaker (over the sounds of the freeway on a Sunday afternoon). I cried. Thankfully he dropped me off at a gas station off the next exit. I called my boyfriend and he came and got me and called a tow truck. I got a cell phone like the next day!

Thanks Lacey! I am thinking about going to get certified!! This was very hard on me, I cannot imagine how his family feels! I think it is important for everyone to carry a cell phone these days

I totally agree. If someone is to lose a beloved husband of 50 years, how much worse if she had been alone at the roadside with no one to call for help. At least she knows you called as soon as you saw it was a health crisis, and he got immediate care. I'm sure it is a huge comfort to her that you were there when you were needed.

If you want, you could stop by the visitation and let her know you will be keeping her in your prayers. Since you got so personally involved, it may be helpful to you and his wife to
and shed a tear together!

I will say a prayer for her and his children and grandchildren. You have done a good thing to help Mrs. Brulz, and to let the TCS family do our little bit to help also!

You did an AWESOME job!!! Your quick thinking & intelligent curiosity definitely gave Mr. Brulz a chance for recovery as well as allowing him the grace of expiring in a medical setting, as opposed to the side of a freeway. AND you have shown Mrs. Brulz that yes, there are those who care. All of us at TCS are so proud of you!

As for people not stopping, unfortunately, that seems to be human nature. I live in a rural area along US 395, a main highway artery, and working nights with a 45mi. (one way) commute, I've had to be first on-scene for several bad wrecks. Seems like either cars refuse to stop OR People will stop, just to look, yet refuse to "get involved".
I try to tell myself,"They just are afraid of making things worse", but often I'm asking for simple things, like find & bring me another blanket.
Your story is a wake-up call for all of us to carry a good warm blanket (or other warm cover) & a good emergency kit.
By the way, I agree with the suggestion that you show up at the memorial service. You might discreetly mention to the funeral director who you are, and s/he can relay a message to the family. What a wonderful way for the rest of the family to meet the angel who was there with their mom and dad during their darkest hour. ...And Godspeed, Donald Brulz, greet all our TCS cats for us...

Well, I was unable to attend the wake yesterday.
I had to work, and it was only 2 hours long... I did send Joyce and one of her sons Sympathy cards! (I talked to her son the day of the accident) I also sent Joyce a hope angel!!!
(one of those metal coins to keep with you) I hope she likes it!
Well, Rest in peace Donald!

Aw, I'm sorry you didn't have the option to go. How thoughtful to send a card! You have a good heart! I'm sure you continue to be a source of comfort to this family at a time of personal crisis!

I sent Joyce a very nice card on Moday, and today she sent me one!!
That puts my mind to rest!! This is what she wrote:
"Erin, you were an angle from heaven thank you for being there. It just shows you thier are good people out there. God Bless you. You did what was needed I really appreciated that as you know I was in no shape to take care of anything. If I can ever help you I would."
Thanks Joyce... I am so happy I could help her!!!
Thank you all for your prayers!!!

I don't know if this will get to emb_78 but I am one of Donalds grandchildren, I never knew what exactly happened that day or that no one but you stopped to help my grandparents. Thank you so very much for being there for my family. Thank you for staying with my grandmother.
