My cat has a problem that when she pees in her litter box she raises her butt out the door and gets it all over the floor and not in the litter box. I hav tried a litter box with a door but she leaves the door on her back and still pees out of it. I have had previous cats in the past and they all have squatted when they pee. My cat now starts squatting and then raises her butt. Can anyone recomend a litter box deep enough or does anyone know how to help me change this. Thanks

One of my male cats does this - what we did for him was to get a high-sided Rubbermaid storage bin, remove the lid, and fill it with his usual litter. We also put a little step stool next to the box for him to climb in easily. Since all four sides of the box are high, there's no place for him to stick his butt out and pee. (a tip learned from the folks here at TCS!
)

Also, some cats express their displeasure with a dirty box that way, so make sure you keep the box clean, scooping at least twice a day (if you use scoopable litter). If you use a non-scoopable litter, change the box when it gets the least bit dirty, and wash the box itself regularly too, rinsing thoroughly to remove any remnant of cleaner. What may seem only a little dirty to us can seem REALLY dirty to a cat with a super-sensitive nose.

Just get a taller box, (rubbermaid storage box) or a covered one=)

I had this problem with my cat as she got bigger...we got her a covered box...and that seemed to help her a lot (and i think she likes the privacy)

I agree. Love the high sided Rubbermaid box suggestion.

Also I suggest emptying the box completely at least one a week and washing with lots of water and a non-toxic (important!) cleaner.

I read somewhere that a cat's sense of smell is 14 stronger than a human's. I don't remember where I read it and at the time I wondered "how do they know that?". Anyways, it illustrates how sensitive a cat's sense of smell is.
