cat furniture

Thread Starter
I've been looking for some cool cat furniture. Does anyone have any
suggestions? I'm tired of the stuff that's out there now. So ugly. It
doesn't match with anything. I have two cats. Chelsea and Snickers.
They love to climb and I find them on top of my bookcase all the time.
I want to buy them cat furniture but the only options I see are brown
shaggy carpet ones. However, I did find some cool stuff from one
company. Here's their site: http://www.therefinedfeline.com.
Curious what you guys think. Because other than these guys, nothing is
on the market that actually looks nice and would be loved by my cats.

Nice stuff!
I'm not a matching furniture kind of person though so doesn't really matter to me

You might like these: http://www.sittingprettykitty.com/cattrees.html
They probably won't match your furniture, but they look like trees and are pretty, so they wouldn't necessarily detract from it or look ugly sitting around either.

Those look very Nordic, very minimalist. I know I saw somewhere online a craftsman that makes trees and covers them in a variety of colors, so you'd be more likely to coordinate with the decor. I'll see if I can't find the site.

Of course if you happen to have 18th century Chippendale or Queen Anne I don't think ANYthing will coordinate LOL. Anyone for a cat tree with ball and claw feet ?

No way is one of those would EVER making it in my house but I know a lot of people who would LOVE them. Japan is very Disney orientated and those amazing trees would fit right in with most Japanese idea of Cute.
Seriously, you should try marketing them here!

This is more my style and you could add matching colours if you really wanted too and more for puss to play with.

Sorry, SittingPrettyKitty can't market products in Japan because the waiting list is so long for products sold right in the USA there is no need to go through the hassle of exporting these products. SittingPrettyKitty has had many people ask though.

I've thought about making Cupid's room have a 'jungle' theme, with getting some of the trees that look like trees, and having someone come paint some trees and grass on the walls (and sky), but I decided not to. My roommate has to sell this house someday! I don't think everyone would appreciate it as much as I would. *sigh*

I did that to my stud's enclosure (the inside part). I still need to add some trees though. He's got a butterfly window perch that he has used to death. It's time for a new one im afraid.

Yesterday I bought a new cat tree for Dexter & Sadie. It is nothing fancy...just your basic 3 level tree but they love it.
One of my daughters is a doggie groomer for a pet supply co. She bought it for me & used her employee discount plus I had a 20% off coupon, so it was a good price.
I alway buy light colors to decorate now because of my kitties white fur.
You can see pictures of my kitties new tree by clicking this link.

yeah cats just seem to know that the cat tree/furniture is for them. I can't figure out how they just know that!
Good for you XOcats! I always love a good bargin!!

Ooooh, nice trees!

I like some of the ones at Angelical Cat, especially their rustic line.
Good point...how do our kitties know that their cat trees belong to them?

I agree TuxedoKitties...the Angelical Cat site has an exellent selection of trees.

I guess when the time comes I'll have to go multi coloured with a Calico girl

I bought one from SItting Pretty Kitty - it looked good and was good quality but the kittens hated it. I donated it to the local rescue site and they just told me the kittens are ignoring it in favor of the traditional carpeted ones. I am now going for what my kittens will like and not matching my furniture. My boyfriend said he can put loking wheeels on what I buy and we can wheel it into the closet when we have people over and need a more elegant look.

Wev'e never has a problem with any of our cats or kittens not liking our SittingPrettyKitty furniture. There's a number of breeders also who have SPK furniture,
two I
can name off hand, one is a Sphynx breeder
who has a large tree and a bengal breeder who has just about every SPK
tree and all of thier cats and kittens love the trees as well.
It's like having the best of both worlds. A nice, artistic piece of furniture to look at plus something your kitties like too. But there's an exception to every rule and not every cat is going to like every type of cat furniture, some don't like any cat furniture at all they would rather lounge on and scratch up your couch =0)
But generally cats just know that the cat furniture you bring home is for them right away. There are ways to get your cat to use it's cat furniture like moving it to a different spot, catnip, ect. Sometimes you just have to give them time to explore it on thier own. If you force the issue with them it may turn them off completely. Cat's are very independant creatures(really the bosses)
and we can't tell them what to do!

In my house ~all~ the fixtures/furniture/appliances are for the cats! Including pieces you wouldn't normally associate with being for cats like the refridgerator (Lexus likes to hang out on top of it with the bread - as pregnant as she is at the moment, she looks like a loaf) or even better, the back of the toilet (makes a great window perch for those days when one likes to watch the birds on the western exposure *grin*)

How sad is this, I could only find one website for cat trees in NZ!
http://www.timbertech.gen.nz/cat.htm

I guess we're just an outdoor cat nation.
Must admit, b4 coming to Japan i'd only ever seen scratching posts and litter box's were a temporary solution in a cardboard box in the garage.

Now, I'm thinking about getting a tree for my girl when we move so she doesn't do in the new wallpaper.

BengalBabe - just wondering do you work for SittingPrettyKitty or just a fan? You seem to be defending them vehemently. As you said not every cat likes the same thing. Maybe it is just a 50/50 thing half love half have no interest. I am not going to trick them into using something and I can assure you when I spend $250.00 for apiece I did not give up easily.

I would have loved to have kept a prettier post but the fact is I did not pick my kittens because they were pretty or pedigree and I am not picking their furniture that way. I just got lucky my kittens are beautiful, sweet and the best thing I got myself in years (and that includes boyfriend!)

My girl loved the top of the speaker (very tall speaker covered in felt)when she was prego....I thought she was going to try and have the kittens right there. She probably would have if I would have let her. Generally cats gravitate towards the tallest thing in the room.

To let my kitties to know that their tree was a safe place for them...I put tee shirts, I had worn to my workout class (they had my scent on them) on the perches of their new tree over night. They love the way I smell. Awwww

There's nothing wrong with picking a kitten because it is pretty or pedigree. Pretty to one person may not be pretty to another and vise versa. I did pick my kittens because they were pretty AND pedigree. Everyone likes having beautiful things weather it be cats or cars. Your view on pretty may be different then someone elses and I have a feeling you did think your kittens were pretty when you picked them.
Yesterday I seen some barn kittens are the ranch where I keep my horses and I must say that although they were not pedigree that were very pretty.
Im sure you care if your house is pretty or not, if not I have an old couch for you that I was going to put on the curb for neighborhood clean up you can have, it's not pretty but your cats would LOVE it! (just kidding )

Fantastic idea!! That's true, I didn't think of that. Some cats may be just a little more paranoid of things that have new smells. You should also do that when you have a new cat joining a household with other cats. Take thier bedding and put it in with the new one and take the new ones bedding and put it in with the resident cats. It helps them get used to eachother before you actually put them together.
*sniff, sniff**.....oh, you do smell very good xocats!! Wow, makes me want to climb right up on your cat tree!!

I actually had something custom built. A true kitty castle. I don't have it scanned it, or I could show it to you. It's huge. It was expensive, but well worth it. My girls love it.

www.catteryworld.com

I explained to him that I wanted a castle built and he did the coolest job. Two turrets and a tall cat bird's seat. The carpeting looks very castle-like as well.
