That was a cute story. I think it is so important to educate children about responsible pet ownership, as they are the future petowners. I see so many children come into our adoption center who aren't educated about pets and it's kind of appalling. So it's nice to hear a good story!
I am so glad you posted this story, there are so many cats and dogs who are unwanted and abused in the housing projects and throughout the inner cities alleys. Volunteers are desperately needed to feed and bring water and most importantly get these animals off the streets and relocated to safer areas. We know of cats who have been beaten to death, stomped by mean teenagers , and many are killed by dogs who have been trained to attack them. It is an ongoing tragedy because so few people go in to the cities to help the strays.
That's a great article. I work in the housing projects here locally and I've seen a lot of really good things happen. The friendly cats and kittens are really vulnerable but the adult ferals tend to do really well. I know quite a few who are at least 5 years old, probably older.
What's always humbling for me is to see the sacrifices that these folks who don't have two dimes to rub together will make to see that "their" cats are fed every day. And while many are suspicious of me initially, they're almost universally grateful to finally have the cats spayed and vaccinated.
