I was just wondering about something. You hear all the time that 1 year in a mans life = 7 years in a dogs. (A one year old puppy is like a 7 year old child) So what about cats? In people years he is 1 year 2 months. In dog years he is close to 9. So what is he in cat years?

I have been asking around and no one can give me an answer. So then I decided who is most likely to know and I realize its TCS!

The chart that leesali gave looks about right. My vet had a similar chart on the wall when I was in there.

My sweet little Snowball will be 14 years old in about the middle of Sept, which will make him equal to a 72 year old human. I'm still hoping for a few more years with him.

10 years in 6 months... that is incredible.... Its funny how when they are kittens we want them to grow up, but when they grow up we miss the kitten months. :'(

This amazes me because my moms cat that she's had since the year I was born is now 100 years old. That definitely explains all the special needs he has now! She has to feed him special food to help his liver, has to give him an IV once a week, and takes him to an animal accupuncturist for his hips! But he's still as active as you'd expect an older man to be!

What I heard about dogs is that very large or very small dogs do not live as long as a medium sized dog; something about the odd sizes makes for more problems and them being more prone to illness etc. So maybe the years may be off in big and small and more correct for medium breeds?

Wow - if that is true - my last kitty who passed naturally just a few months shy of 22 was REALLY up there! We also (as a kid) had a beagle/mutt that made it 26 yrs. (our yrs.)
