my husband and i have been discussing our dream house recently and so far it seems fantastic, it is realistic, it's not a five story mansion but big enough and most importantly cozy and filled with love.

our dream home is going to be built from scratch, we are buying a few acres of land somewhere down south where it's green and lush, we want a property with plenty of large tree's, preferably eucalipts and some pines, the land won't be huge but big enough so i can't walk all of it in a day and big enough so i can have places to sit and find inspiration for my art.

i want enough land so i can go for walks with anassa and so the cats can enjoy themselves too away from the dangers of the city.

we want a pool out the back with a nice entertaining area so we can have party's and plenty of space when family and friends come over, my husband is going to build a pizza oven outside too because i make a great pizza and love them sooo much

we want the house to have wood accents, it will be a modern cabin style, slightly nordic with open fire places and sheepskin rugs, we also want a bar and pooltable room so we can have drinks and listen to music.

mostly everything will be downstairs, all we want upstairs is a spa, bedroom and a studio with a skylight so i can work in a nice enviroment, we will have a small balcony overlooking the property.

my husband is very good at building stuff and wants to build a table and a few other things that will carry the nordic style through the house.

we also want stone and low lighting to make it look warm.

we have been trying to decide on what we want for a while now and have finally decided, i'm so excited and i can't wait to start building, we have worked out that if we buy materials second hand, sinks, fittings etc we can save a lot of money.

so....what is your dream house? do you already have it or are you working towards it?

At the moment, my dream house would be a cottage on Orkney (small islands off the coast of Scotland) with a fair bit of land. It would cost half as much as a house on the South coast so I could semi retire on the money left over and spend my days playing with kittens!

I would be happy with just open fields, so that you could look out of the bedroom window and see for miles. Plus, I'm not one for gardening so low maintenance is key!!

I would love a white house with black window panes and a red door somewhere on the coast... lots of green grass and sun flowers in the yard. I would someday love a deep bathtub that has stairs leading up to it and a large ledge around it so I could put all my bath smelly stuff and candles and some plants... make my own little peaceful oasis in my home.

I searched for a year for my dream house to retire to and I have found it! It is now being fixed and refitted and I will move there next summer.

The must-have list included:

Safe location for cats and horses
Good accommodation/land for same
River/lake in easy reach
Hilly/mountainous country
An hour from a big town with good shops, theaters etc
A study, livingroom, three bedrooms and big country-style kitchen
Built of traditional materials, especially stone
Neighbours, but not too close, so that I have privacy
A country with a good quality of life where I respect their values

And I have bought an old farmhouse in Normandy, France, on a hillside above the River Orne, with all of the above, plus a well on the property that will provide water for the garden features and the horses. And it has two extra buildings that I am turning into guest cottages/holiday lets to provide extra income in summer! It could not be better.

My dream house has always, always always been a log cabin. Off the road somewhere with lots of woods.

Just a little log cabin, not something huge, cuz the bigger the house the more you have to clean it!

I like my house and all (my childhood home) but it's just too dang big. And, my neighbors are nosey little buggers. Someday I'll sell the place & scat outta there and hopefully into my dream house... log cabin...

Oooh, that's a doozy!
I'd like an all-brick house with a dock on deep water for boating and fishing. I'd like a red front door and probably black shutters (UGA colors!). In my utopia, we'd have views of both the beach and mountains, so I guess this dream home of mine is in Hawaii!

When I was little, my best friend and I LOVED to draw our dream houses. Our dream homes always had a "candy room", a "cat room", and we always lived next door to Rick Astley (an 80s singer that we had a huge crush on).

My dream home would be a penthouse in NYC, my realistic dream would be a house in the suburbs of somewhere...maybe NYC or Vegas, and be large but not so large I wouldn't use all of it. I don't really have any more details than that yet. I know it has to have high ceilings and an outside/inside room for Cupid.

I am going to France in September to see how things are progressing, so I will post pictures on my return. At present the pix I have do not do it justice as it is covered with scaffolding (new stonework and new roof) etc.

I would like somewhere around 20 acres, give or take. There are a lot of types of houses that I like so I'll describe one of them.. A 1800 square foot stone house with architectural shingles. I would like 3 sets of french doors leading from the open living area/dining area to the stone patio in the back yard. I want pergo floors and very high ceilings with windows that open from both sides. All the furniture would be black laquer and it would have a kind of oriental meets arabian nights theme, but not cheesily so. The kitchen would be huge with granite countertops and black laquer cabinetry with an island and a breakfast nook attached. 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths (the 1/2 would be connected to a social room like the living room, I hate having bath tubs in the room that nonshowering guests use.)

You could always move to Vancouver, Amy. You can have beach and mountains here at the same time -- no prob.
ACtually to get the boating and fishing right at your door, you'd probably need to be in Deep Cove or on one of the Gulf Islands, but they're in easy reach.

I can't say I've done a great deal of planning/fantasizing around the subject, but if I could have my mother-in-law's property, with only minor alterations to the house, without having to leave the Lower Mainland, that would be perfect. Yes, well...ain't gonna happen!

I LOVE thinking about my dream house! It would be located on a river and the beach would be in walking distance as well (a mile or less). I would want an older home, probably victorian. I absolutely love the architecture on victorians and really love the warm woods used in them, the large doorways, and their endless homey feeling. My dream home would include a dock and a small boat for me to spend leisurely afternoons on. I would have plenty of front yard because the way homes are being built today (with no front yard...or really NO yard at all for that matter) really drives me nuts. Odds are it would be in Florida as I already hate the winters here and would never in my life want to deal with snow. Oh, also, a wraparound porch is a definite plus.

Now I'll just have to spend the next 10 or so years working towards that! It'll be worth it though!

oooh I want an old victorian painted a crisp navy blue with white trimming and gingerbread. I would like it in an old quiet neighborhood. as it is, I would like to live up north because I hate the heat, but I love Louisiana and would be happy there if it weren't so ugly hot.

If I could live in louisiana, I'd want to live in the house i grew up in, it was large and brick (and stone.. well big stone bricks..) and fit all 10 of my family members comfortably, and it had a tower with a winding staircase where we used to have 30 foot tall christmas trees.
