George - thank you for those sensible thoughts. I am not Bosnian, but British, though I have lived and worked here for ten years now. I came as a journalist during the war and stayed to help train young journalists and re-organise the media. Now I am teaching English at hte University. I am used to London with its resources like the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, and the many organisations that work with animals, and it was a terrible shock at first to see the problems here and the way that the Bosnians treat their animals. But now I understand better, at least why they react and act the way they do. Things are improving slowly, but there are some hard decisions to be taken every day before the country will be able to really hold its head up. My friend who works with the dogs is also British - no Bosnian would do what she does.
