The way they see it, SOMEONE has to push the envelope towards the left. Even if they make someone slightly less igorant or slightly less conservative...they feel they've accomplished their goal.
Some of us tree-huggers actually have a completely hypocritical special place in their hearts for The Gap (for instance, me. I know, I'm a horrible person. But the "living wage" us hippies talk about isn't the 6 or 7 bucks an hour someone would be paid to sew clothes in the U.S....a WHOLE different heart-breaking issue), so I don't think it's fair to make generalizations and put people into little categories like we're doing here. You either embrace the label you're given or you don't, and it's a personal thing. Words are just words, not the meaning we attach to them.
Also, some people legitmately do think fishing and leather are cruel. I am one of them. It's fine if you don't agree, Pandy, but I feel like you're failing to put effort into understanding WHY people think it's cruel and why they choose to abstain from any sort of hunting for sprot or otherwise, and the use of animal products.
when i mentioned the 'pot smoking' hippies, i didn't mean all of them, just like other groups, there are extremes and i have met a lot of extremely passionate yet ignorant hippies.
as for extreme femminists...well, i won't even start on that subject, we were born women for a reason
hippies go on and on about living 'as one' with the earth yet fishing is wrong, wearing leather is wrong and a lot of other things that there is absolutely nothing wrong with as long as the animal does not suffer, fur for example is made in a cruel way so i wouldn't wear it...besides, i think it looks just plain aweful lol
the native indians are as close to being in harmony with the earth as you can get but they hunt for food and clothing, i see nothing wrong with that, they respect the animals but they have to survive just like animals eat each other to survive.
lots of people hunt and although i could never shoot an animal, i don't even eat meat, i see nothing wrong with it if it's done humainly.
i am not putting all hippies into a little group, just some, i also know other hippies who are very nice and don't smoke pot at all.
everyone is entitled to their own opinions but when they push it onto someone who is not interested then they need to move on, i love spearfishing, there is no other feeling like it and although some might see it as cruel, i see it as catching my dinner for that night.
sorry if my earlier post offended, i have met some lovely hippies but just like anyone, there are some aweful one's too.
