Hello everyone! I wanted to place a quick introduction and a question if you dont mind...

I have had cats pretty much all my life and I love them dearly. I had a cat for nine years that went from California to Colorado, Germandy, and back to Colorado and ran away a week before I was due to come back to California for good. I was heart broken and swore to never get another cat. Well, 5 years later I fell in love with a Bengal/Siamese mix 8 month old kitten (Nikki) that was up for adoption. I had to have her and ran straight to the shelter to adopt her. She is sweet for the most part but has a really bad problem with biting that I have no idea how to stop. We got her in December and yesterday I came home with a 7 week old black kitten (Jenna). She is a complete lover but doesnt like the other animals too much (we also have a boxer).

I just seen the thread on introduction of cats and I plan on starting that tonight when I get home.

My problem is, since last night, Nikki has been completely freaking out. Running under the table, hissing and biting at anyone that trys to show attention to her. She pooped all over the floor twice. I am so sad that she is acting this way and my husband has had it. He loves animals but he hasnt liked Nikki since she bit him 2 weeks after we got her. He loves her, but doesnt like her too much.

My question is, have we traumitized Nikki for good or can she come back to the some what herself, even if it is her biting self?

Thanks in advance!
Dee

Welcome to TCS!!

I'm not much of an expert in the behaviour of cats. My kitty is sometimes on the crazy side.

My advice would be just to give her some space and let her come to you. I would suggest to post your question in the cat care section of behaviour, to get some more helpful hints

see you on the forums!

Hi and welcome!
I'd make the same suggestion, post on the behavior forum and look for help there. Good luck!

Hi and welcome to the Cat Site! I am sure she will be fine again - you just need to introduce them properly - and since you say you read the article, you know to keep thrm sepeate for awhile. Nikki is prob stressed with the new kitten - it is her space after all. Your husband has to understand that cats are easily stressed and it takes time and patience (and space!) to properly into new kitties,. Good luck!!!

Welcome to TCS

in regards to Nikki and her attitude now that you have brought Jenna home, just give her some time and some individual love & attention. It has only been a day or so, and both Nikki & Jenna will need some time to sort themselves out.
I cant say I went through the same things as you did, but it took a good 2 weeks before I was comfortable with my boys being alone together. They just need to work it all out.

I am so sorry to hear that your cat ran away in colorado before you were due to come home - I can imagine how heartbroken you must of been. Thankyou for sharing your story with us

good luck with the introduction of your 2 kitties - take it slowly and have some patience and it will work. We are all here for you to offer as much advise as we can. As mentioned just move over to the behaviour forum, or the relevant forum if you have more questions

welcome again from me & my boys - looking forward to getting to know you
