Cupid was playing with a toy mouse that the woman I get his food from gives him sometimes, and he made a weird noise so I looked at him and saw the mouse hanging out of his mouth by the tail. He was batting at it trying to get it out (gently; he wasn't freaked out by it yet)! It was in his throat! I took it out of his mouth. I know he'd get it out on his own if I wasn't here, but still. I took a picture to show you.

I never thought it was dangerous because I never imagined he'd swallow the tail! It's only 1.5 to 2 inches long.

He tried to get it back when I was taking a picture.
I ripped off the tail and gave it back to him.

I just thought I'd let you know in case any of you have any mice like that laying around--you might want to consider taking the tail off. He doesn't even usually play with them on his own--I just keep them around because I think they're kind of cute and he likes to play fetch with them once in a while.

whew.

Good heads up. Just goes to show that not everything sold in pet stores is safe. One always needs to examine the product closely to make sure there isn't something on it that might be harmful. Cats are very good at pulling things apart.

Alfie has a favourite white mousey that I found yesterday minus it's tail. Still looking, and hoping to find it discarded under the bed

Wow, that must have been so scary!
I'm so thankful you're ok, darling little Cupid! Thank you so much for that warning! Off with the tails of all the mice lying around the house!

With any sort of toy like that i always make sure i'm around, and when i'm at work they only have their balls, catnip sacks and any other that doesn't have anything that dangles from them.

Cats are like children, you have to watch them like a hawk when it comes to putting things in their mouths

Such a good reminder! Cats are like toddlers, and you have to be careful and think about what they could possibly swallow that could harm them.

I'll move this to Care & Grooming.

That's where it was originally.

I haven't bought those mice in awhile, they always end up under the couch, plus Oliver can pull all the fur and "skin" off of them, and tries to eat it, dumb bunny that he is. Too much of a choking/ingesting hazard for me, Oliver will eat anything he can get his hands on!
