Hi there,

My kitties are doing wonderful, except for the new "wild one" has a huge matt on her back and of course she wont let me touch it- but watching her work at it is so hard. I really want to help her get it out...anyone know and secrets?? please!!!!

Can you touch her at all? If you can, you need a fine tooth steel comb, a seam ripper and a lot of patience. Understand that these mats generally have some sort of skin irritation or infection underneath it and you could get bit. Really your best bet is to get her to a vet and have them sedate her and shave her. That is what I do with the long-haired ferals when they show up here matted and dirty.

If you can, I would try putting leather gloves on, and holding her and trying to work it out with a comb that is used for dogs, metal, and work it out and, try and cut as much of it out with a pair of barber scisors, keeping the comb close to the skin, and only cut what is above it so as not to injure the cat.
I have used this method before, and it worked, and didn't cause the cat or myself any injury. Good Luck!!!
