Yeah now that I heard about this I am TICKED OFF!!!

My friend's neighbor had gotten 2 german shepherd dogs. 2 weeks later they went and had the dogs euthanized because they didn't want them anymore!!! What kind of person would do that?! I mean gosh we have a :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor: humane society that would've gladly taken them in!!!!! This just really ticks me off!!!! Sometimes I just really hate people.

I'm not surprised anymore by what people do to their pets. A lot of people, even people who "love" their pets, treat them like they're furniture. That's why I'm glad I found this place; people here seem to have a different level of love and compassion than most other animal care-takers I know.

I'll never understand people like that.
What's the point of having a pet unless he/she is going to be part of the family and treated with love, care and respect?

How evil! What a waste of beautiful dogs!

My girlfriend bought a house, which included barns and some acreage. Guess what came with the house? Two black labs, a male and a female. Great manners, nice dogs, already speutered. Of course she already had a dog, but suddenly she had two more! It was so bizarre to me...but much better than euthanizing them! People can be so evil sometimes....

well, it's not just "what kind of person would do this" it's also the "what kind of vet would do this?" also. I hear about these things every once in a while, and I don't understand why vets actually agree to put animals down just because the owner doesn't want to deal with them anymore. What if they are still healthy and young? I don't understand it. Why not encourage the owners to surrender them to the humane society or to put an ad in the paper, or if it came down to it, DO IT FOR THEM!!!!

The owners AND the vet need to be beat up...I'd love to help.

The "disposable pet" attitude is really terrible. These are living creatures.

Oh, that makes me so mad. And in addition to being unbearably inhumane and just evil, they are wasting a lot of money. I mean, why didn't those people just get a new sofa? Some humans are so egotistical that they think all life is in thier hands - to take away if they wish.

My husband brough up a good point yesterday, as we were discussing our new furbaby(I am borrowing this phrase from someone on here - hope it's OK) Peanut. I am not very pleased about having six cats in the house. But he said, "why is Peanut's life any less valuable than those of our cats, or of ours for that matter?" Truth is, Peanut's life means the same as the rest. And if we support animal life, and human responsibility, Peanut gets love just as much as the rest. So we now have six cats, and I'll deal with the cat hair and mess and whatever. I will love them all.

Also, I believe in Karma. Those people will get what's coming to them. I've seen it happen, particularly when people do wrong by pets. Unfortunately, that may be the only thing that teaches them.

Ok, the bee is out of my bonnet. Pardon my rambling.

I agree with you there!! But there's also something else that bugs me. Why should we have to pay to euthanize animals when we're doing it for the best. My dog was suffering from really bad tumors and cancers plus he was REALLY old. He was in so much pain he couldn't get up the stairs anymore..and he didn't even want to get up to go outside to go potty. So we ended up paying to have to put him down. It was so horrible coming home to see that empty bed
I think they should do it this way..if the animal REALLY NEEDS IT..we don't have to pay..but if the animal is young and healthy..you have to pay. Though even when they are young and healthy they shouldn't be euthanized at all.

That is awful. I am shocked that the vet would do it. In the past few months, both my vet and the vet the charity I foster for uses have been asked to put healthy cats to sleep - both cases they have refused and found homes, but still charged them. The first two cats were 9, and the owners were moving and couldn't take them with them and hadn't found anyone - someone came in later that day who had recently lost a cat, so the vet convinced her to take them. The other one is my foster cat Tom who is 12 - his owners had let him get so big and they didn't give a reason for wanting him pts. The vet was also advised to put a kitten to sleep cos the owners didnt think it had a chance (she always rings me when this happens!!) - £12 later the kitten was fine apart from having cauliflower ears and is living with one of the receptionists. It is something I hate, especially cos I have lost so many much loved pets, that I would have done anything to have that little bit longer, yet other people just get fed up so get rid. Grr
