My female kitty has been developed arthritis in her front legs either shoulders or elbows (or if that is even what they call them in cats) We lived in San Diego her whole life and she was fine down there since it prety much was 75 year round. We've moved to Northern California and it gets cold in the winter. She just slept by the fire place last winter the heat must have helped her feel better. I'm going to take he to the vet here in the next month she's not due for a yearly till next spring but, I want to see about maybe an inflamatory medicine or something? Do any of you know what there is to offer to ease her pain? I just want to be informed before I take her in. It so happened in one of her front shoulders develped a cyst when she was just a kitten probably about 3 months old that had to be removed and I think she probably has some scar tissue in there and of course arthritis. She really isn't that old about 9. But, anyone with some info would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Hope Evans

One of my girls has hip displasia and we give her Cosequin once a day. If she gets bad we start giving it to her twice a day (hasn't happened in awhile) The vet also said that if it was really bad - he would give her a shot of something to help temporarily (can't remember what it is though -sorry!)

Thank you, I think her pain is mostly when she jump down from the table things like that I she her hesitate both when she jumps up and down. I'm hoping they have like an ibuprofin for cats I'm thinking it's going to be a daily thing during the winter? Does anyone else do this for their aging kitty's? Thanks again, Love, Hope

Unfortunately for cats there is no consistantly safe anti-inflammatories to use. There are a couple out there but I'm hesitant to recommend them because a few cats have developed serious health issues after their use. Best to talk to your vet.

What I do recommend is daily cosequin (takes 4 to 6 weeks to see the full effect) or a liquid product ordered online called Synflex. One of my cats has terrible hip dysplasia and has responded nicely to Synflex. These are glucosomine products (with added beneficial ingredients) that help keep the joints "oiled." Arthritis is the grinding of bone on bone and glucosomine helps replace the synovial fluid so there is not as much grinding.

If your cats arthritis is serious enough I can almost guarantee you she feels some sort of pain all the time....not just when it is cold. Cats are masters at disguising pain so when they start showing symptoms chances are it is quite progressed.

I agree you should talk to your vet. Many ppl report good results with glucausamine but it should be administered only after you talk with your vet. Cats tend to hide pain too so it is often difficult to ascertain just how much pain they are in. Good luck!! I hope you find a good solution for your kitty!

I just kinda wanted to know what I was talking about before I had a talk with the vet. Today I read all the past posts regarding arthritis and I read about the Glucosamine and Cosequin and the syn... I'll put it on my list I forgot how to spell it. Thanks again, Love, Hope

Actually , not correct. There is one that is completely safe to use. It's a homeopathic combination( yes, I know, but what can I say, it works!) called Arthritis Relief manufactured by the Natra Bio company in Ferndale WA. It comes in drops or tablets and is for " inflammation of the joints, pain in the bones and joints , swelling, stiffness, difficult movement and has no stomach upset. " They say " fast gentle relief" which is true. I've seen it work in as little as two hours.

I'll check it out! Is there a link to a supplier?
