My vet has told me that cats occaisonally vomit for no reason. If that is true, then I wonder when to become concerned when my cat throws up. Alex threw up once yesterday, and once today. His behavior is completely normal otherwise. His vomit appeared watery with partially digested food in it. Each time he threw up he was in the kitchen and had just had a drink of water. Is this reason to call the vet or should I give him another day and see what happens?

Well, I just had to call the vet. I get so concerned when something like this happens. The vet tech I spoke to said to watch him closely for another day, and if he gets sick again to call back. Now of course, I will refuse to leave the house until I'm sure he's ok.

Does anyone else have experience with their cat getting sick a couple of days in a row, around the same time of day, but behaving normally otherwise?

Yes, unfortunately from time to time! Cody tends to eat very fast and overeat (she's huge!) so the outcome is her throwing up...yucko! I've had to cut back how much food I give her at a certain time. And she also does it if she cleans herself before I brush her...hence, furballs!

No cause for alarm unless it's constant and/or contains blood. How old is he? I would give it another day and if Alex keeps throwing up, I would call the vet back and take him in. He may just have a little tummy bug! Good luck!

Dori just threw up for the very first time one evening last week and then again the following afternoon when I got home from work. It looked a bit like your description. I wasn't too worried the first time it happened. But the second time I was. She did have a little hair mixed in it that time though. I called her vet to be safe in the morning and they said to keep an eye on her and if there was a change in her eating and drinking habits and/or her behavior to call them back and schedule an appointment. She was completely fine though. I think she may have had her first hairball.

The vet said that it may be a lodged hairball. I didn't even think to look for hair in the vomit. Alex is only 2. Neither him nor Cleo have thrown up 2 days in a row to my knowledge. Of course, the problem with two cats is that unless you are home to witness it, you don't know who did what. Once one of them got sick at night too. That's a hell of a way to get woken up, and with black cats in the dark you can't tell who the puker is. I always feel so bad when they get sick, and Alex gives a little hop after he throws up like he scared himself or something.
