i posted this once but can't find it. if it was pulled by a mod, i'm sure i'd have been notified why so i have no idea where it went.

my sister told me about a problem her cat was having and asked me to see if i could find out what it was. on three occasions (august 2k4, last sunday and last night), that she knows of, her cat threw up and passed out. she also seems to have a hard time swallowing. she, recently, coughed up some furballs so it doesn't seem she has anything lodged. she is 12 years old and generically classified as domestic short hair. has anyone heard of a problem like this or know what it could be? my sister's obviously sick about it, even though she didn't exhaust every financial resource finding out what was wrong back in august of last year. there's no accounting for why people do what they do but i know its not for lack of love for amber (her cat). any replies welcome ; she's really worried as i would be if it was my baby (felineous). thx, maxwell

I am not sure I understand - was her cat doing this last year? If my cat passed out, with or without vomiting, I would take it to the emergency room even if I was in my pyjamas! I don't think anyone can second guess a vet on this. I do hope she finds out soon what is the matter.

At the kitty's beck and call
If you posted it last August, it was probably lost when TCS crashed last November.

Do you mean that the cat vomited and then passed out last August, then again last Sunday and last night? I agree with Jenny, this cat needs to be seen by a Vet. It's not possible for any of us sitting here to know what is going on with this kitty. Sending lots of good wishes for this kitty and I hope the vet is able to figure out what is wrong.

My cat would just have to vomit and pass out once and that would be enough for me to make a vet visit no matter what time of night it was.

If she's worried then she needs to act on it asap and get the cat to see someone.

I have seen this once...when my sweet bookie was dangerously anemic and close to passing on. She would pass out if too stressed during being assist fed or if she threw up. If your sister's cat is still here many months after this happening, I doubt it is the same problem! However, I sure would want to get my cat in to a vet to find out (as we did with my sweet Miz Bookie).

If the heart becomes too stressed, a cat will pass out, especially if there is a heart condition. With the cat being 12 years old, this could be a distinct possibility now. Have your sister ask the vet to check this out. If caught in time, there are things that can support the heart effectively.

Yes, although it might be a financial burden for your sister, she really needs to take the cat to the vet and have them do a full senior panel and full comprehensive exam to find out what the cause of this obvious distress is. If she's really strapped for cash, I'm sure her vet would be willing to do a payment plan, or she could apply for care credit (www.carecredit.com)

Good luck!

no, i posted about an hour before this post and it just disappeared and, yes, first, last august then twice more in the last week or so. i just talked to her on the phone and she has a vet who makes house calls and is going there on the 30th. on the one hand, she's got a great vet willing to make house calls and on the other, a bad one for not saying, 'i can't get there 'til the 30th so take her to someone now!', which she shouldn't need to be told. like jenny and rosiemac, 'do not pass go, do not collect $100' right to the emergency room ; i wouldn't have to think about it. like i said, there's no accounting for people's behavior. i don't know my sister very well ; i haven't seen her in 15 yrs but, talking to her on the phone, its obvious that she loves her cat. she calls her "my little angel". why she's not moving heaven and earth, i don't know but i passed along your best wishes and she really appreciated it. half of these posts are new since i talked to her ; i will pass along the senior panel suggestion, the heart thing and miz bookie's experience.
