I know someone will understand, and somehow help me cope with what I have to do. I never thought I would ever be one of those people, the people I hated because they should have thought ahead.
I have to re-home 2 of my cats
I don't want to, but I have to. I can't even talk about it, or think about it....but it's clear that this has to happen. Recent events in my life have changed things drastically, and I need to reduce the size of my feline family from 5, to 3 cats. I have to make the excruciating descision on which ones to re-home, and I don't know how to. I don't even know how to go about adopting them out to a new home. I could really use some support and advice.

I don't have any suggestions or words of wisdom that will make this any easier for you. However, I encourage you to find them another loving home, perhaps through friends or family. Please do not just drop them off at your nearest shelter (which I am sure you would not dream of doing!). If you don't have friends or family who can take the cats, perhaps going to some of your local vets and asking if you can post fliers. Good luck. Please do your very best for them.

I can't offer advice but I can offer support! No matter what you need to ask or talk about I will be here on this thread or through PM. Matt, you know what is best for your family and I can only be here for you through it

The best thing to do is to make your decision, and then stick to it. Make sure the people that you give the cats to are willing to take good care of them. That will help to ease your fears and concerns.

We all have to face miserable decisions and losing some of your loved ones IS a miserable decision, but at least you can make sure they will have good homes.

You should be commended for your caring attitude, some people, perhaps because they don't know any better, just throw the cats out to fend for themselves.

Kat Boy....my only advice is to try to find someone you know to take the cats and not burden the already overburdened shelter/rescue organizations. There is a really good PDF called "How to find homes for homeless pets"..you can find it here:

Katie is right on target with her advice! Also, you might try calling the local center that helps the developmentally disabled in your area & see if they would be willing to ask around with their clients. My 25yo has left-brain damage, with a severe speech problem, and that severely hinders her social life. However, she is very capable in many other areas, and she is one of the best cat owners that I know. She raised her cat Christy since Christy was only a week or so. She spends hours grooming & playing with Christy; takes her out into a small enclosed garden for daily airings. I know other people in my daughter's situation, and they, too really treasure and value their pets. Sometimes, they would like to adopt one, but the adoption fees are a real hindrance; the vets around here often give them breaks on the pets' vaccines & routine care. I know it's a long shot, but it might work out for your kitties.
Currently, my daughter is visiting her aunt in TN, and my sis's kitties & dogs are really going to miss her when she comes home. They all love the groomings & the play times. But my cats really want her home now!! So do my hens, they love the extra snacks & the attention she gives them all.
I will pray for strength and wisdom for you during this difficult time. I know that you love all your cats, and the decisions will be heartwrenching, but on the other hand you may find the "perfect fit" and then things will be much easier than expected.
Hugs, Susan
