Today I saw the cutest little guy up for adoption, 10 weeks old, so adorable. He was sitting in a cage with about four dogs (in their own cages of course), just quietly looking around and checking everything out. It would have been SOOOOOO easy to take him home. Now I know what you all feel like when you post about how hard it is to leave them there.

It's hard
I try not to go to Petsmart on Saturday's. It is so hard to look at those sweet little faces and have to come home empty handed.

Oh, I know the feeling. I can't go near pets stores on adoption day. I have a hard enough time when the strays in my complex have litters. They are fearful and won't let anyone near them, but I just want to take them all in. There's an eight week old kitten living with her mom behind a bush outside my door and I can't stop thinking about her, but I'm afraid of exposing my own cats to disease. Why do kittens, and adult cats, have to be so cute?

I don't like looking at the pets in cages at the store because I feel bad for them. I just want to open all the cage doors and say "Run. Run fast and be free....but find a good home"!!

Actually...those are the LUCKY cats/kittens/dogs and puppies. At least they have a chance to find a new home. Most poeple don't understand the magnitude of the overpopulation. If you want something truly heartwrenching...then accompany a person from a rescue group who has to decide which of the many shelter dogs/cats they will pull and which they will leave behind that will be euthanized.

I have the same feeling when I go to Petsmart on adoption day that I get if I go grocery shopping on an empty stomach: I WANT IT ALL!!! Put em all in my cart and head straight to the checkout!
Honestly, if I were to adopt a kitty everytime I saw one I wanted, I'd be up to my ears in cat!

i try to avoid going on adoption days. it's easier at our petsmart...the Luv-a-Pet center is in the dog section on the other side of the store...so i can avoid going over there. (we don't have a dog) last time i went past the Luv-a-Pet center there was a cat that looked just like my MIL's cat felix, who went to the bridge last winter. brought tears to my eyes.

I am just the opposite..I find that I am drawn to these adoption days, even though I can't adopt any more pets, I give each and every one of the animals much love while I am there....I feel in my heart that I am still doing them some good with extra love, even though I can't take them home with me.....strange huh?

The cats at adoption days at Petco and Petsmart are generally fosters cats. So they are in the cage for 4 hours on Saturday, but otherwise are in a home with lots of loving care.

I took my foster Sugartoes to Petco in Lake Zurich, IL Saturday. No cats or kittens were adopted
! But my baby Smartie was there (she has been in another foster home with other kittens for about 2 weeks.) Well, the people who were keeping Smartie and her new brothers couldn't keep them this week, so I have her again (and them). When I picked her up to kiss her little face, she started purring! And the new kittens, Danny and Phantom are little loves!

Please come and look at the cats and kittens at the adoption shows! And send your friends. Sometimes, even if you are not purchasing, just by standing next to someone else and noting how special a certain kitty is, they may be more interested! And it helps everyone keep in mind that overpopulation really is a serious problem.
