They have been on a diet for a few months and have only lost 2 ounces each. Is that ok?
The vet said to go slow, so I am.
Shenandoah only likes wet food, so he gets 1 1/2 - 2 cans of Fancy Feast (each can is 3 ounces) a day, spread out over the day.

Humble gets 1/2 - 2/3 cup of IAMS weight control dry food a day, spread out over the day.

I leave fresh water out all the time.

They aer both inside cats and never go out.
They play together some, but they nap a lot, too. They are both 5 years old.
Am I doing the right things?

Thanks, bobbie

Sounds about right to me. If you think about it, 2 ounces is a much more significant portion of their weight than it seems.
Oliver was on a diet once-- he was about 15 lbs. Now he's 13.5, which doesn't seem like a big difference, but a pound and a half was like 10% of his body weight...that would be like a human losing 15, even 20 lbs (depending on their weight--it would be 15 lbs for a 150 lb person)

So, 2 ounces for a couple of months sounds good!
If you have any doubts, you can always ask your vet!
Good luck!

I myself am on a diet...no fun! I feel the little guys' pain!!

Maybe you can switch Shenandoah's canned food? Fancy Feast isn't the healthiest and can be fattening.

And, from what I know, weight control does just what it says.. controls the weight. So they don't gain any weight but they don't really lose much either.

One food I have seen work well on overweight animals is Purina's OM (Overweight Management). I know for certain it is made in dry, not positive about canned but I think so. Or, if Humble really like IAMS then maybe switch to a weight loss or low calorie food.

But Olly is right, you don't want them to lose weight too quickly it can cause health problems.

Hope this helps!
