raw pork, fran????????? I would be scared to eat it...

Haven't heard of that. I have friends in Munich. I will ask them if they have had it.
I have had that thinly sliced raw beef dish (Carpaccio?)..It is delish if prepared right.
Chefs here have to have a specific license or course to cook it.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys! I tried the horseshoe sandwich kinda thing last night but used curry sauce over it instead of cheese sauce...It was good but messy... Next time, I will try the velveeta. It will be better I am sure.

I am still looking for some good N'awlins recipes for Gumbo or any creole dish......Anyone????

yes i worked in a italian restaurant and they served carpaccio cant say i like it very much though.

The raw pork meat IS FRESH just sliced and grinded from the pig

By the end of the day it is usually finished, but they are not allowed to keep the left overs for the next day.
If you do happen to have it in the fridge for the next day you absolutely CANNOT eat it raw you must cook it of course

At first i could not eat it, i thought germans were disgusting

but of course when you live in a country and start to have a relationship with a pure german you would have to try their home foods.

Another thing i love is this Spinach dish.. but i think its very fatty!

you get two packs of frozen spinach, get a very large pot and melt the spinach, add Maggi sauce, nutmeg, a cup of flour mixed with water and add it to make it thick, add cream, and the fried fat of bacon, here they sell big chucks of only fat, you cook potatoes in another pot and when ready serve with potatoes (usually people fry an egg and add it on top.. but i dont!) it is delicious i love it!

What is maggi sauce, Fran? That spnach dish sounds gooood. I love spinach..
There is an East Indian dish like that too.. I can't remember the name.

I think if I didn't know it was raw pig, I could possibly eat that other thing..
I don't even like raw sushi (I go for the sashimi roll )...My coworker brought raw salmon in once on bread slathered with butter and it was soooo good..But I didn't know it was raw as it was sliced so thin and salted...

Alocal fav here is the brain sandwich (but not my cup of tea!) and fiddlers. Breaded and fried catfish.

And the best barbecue pork anywhere!

) We call them pony sandwiches, though. They're my ultimate comfort food.

I like them best with ham, and use only one slice of bread, then put the meat on top. Then, yes, you pile the fries right on top of the toast. Then smother the whole thing in cheese sauce. The secret is to make a somewhat thick and really creamy cheese sauce. I make mine with Velveeta and cheddar cheese, a little butter, and evaporated milk.

I know it sounds totally crazy, but just try it sometime!
The pony is the smaller version of the horseshoe, you're right...lol
Just means you only make half, using one slice of bread. Some places are downright secretive about their cheese sauce. The Velveeta works okay at home, when you add the stuff to it like you do. A lot of places use a white sauce with cheeses and spices added for flavor.

Just coming back from NY, I got hooked on white pizza there. NY pizza is all thin, cut into HUGE slices, usually they do fold it to eat it. There is also Sicilian in NY, which is a thick crust, cut into squares instead of triangles.

There is only one place close to NY pizza here, and it's 30 minutes away. I don't think even they have the white pizza, though. Still, it's the only place that Joe will go for pizza!

The Indian dish sounds like it could be Aloo Saag - that is lovely - here is a link to a recipe for it http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/recipe.cgi?r=3365
