There is a tornado watch in effect right now for Toronto.
Never heard of such a thing in the past, but we are currently receiving torrential downpours... finally!

This cool and wet weather is a welcome change from 30 C + days with brutal humidity and smog alerts.

Not to mention I LOVE thunder and lightening storms!

If you're getting cool and wet after hot and humid, that's why you're getting tornado watches. Anytime (at least down here) you get those sudden extreme weather changes, usually due to a front moving through, they sort of go to banging heads and something's gotta give.

Wow what a storm!!! I left work at 3:30 and just arrived home now (5:30pm). When I arrived at the subway station the storm was in full force and actually caused a waterfall on the staires that lead to the subway.

When we started to drive up Yonge Street, there were lightening bolts everywhere and small hail. Many parts of Yonge street were flooded and many cars stalled on the side of the road. On side street was so bad the water level reached past the top of the car tires. Here's a link to the local news story: Tornado Watch

I'm thankful the skies have finally cleared in my area. I really didn't enjoy my very long and eventful trip back home. But the bad weather is supposed to return tomorrow afternoon.

But, when I walked in my front door, Nakita just woke up from what looked like a deep nap. She had an expression on her face that read: So, what did I miss?

The warning is here in Rochester, NY too. The kids were having a discussion as I was reading this post. I had to laugh.

Wow, yeah, I heard there was some serious flooding. And it always seems to flood into Union Station for some reason.

The skies are clear now, and I missed most of the hail and much of the serious part of the storm while at an appointment.

A tornado did touch down near Fergus and it flattened a cow barn. I saw it on the news. My mom and I were driving out of Orangeville in 1984 before it got hit by tornadoes. It was the one that went through Orangeville and then went up to Barrie.

I just heard about this on Global or CityTV. And there was a lot of other damage (roof torn off, collapsed buildings) and one fatality, that occurred when someone's chimney collapsed on them.

I'm surprised at the level of damage from the flash floods here in Toronto. A bridge collapsed from the pressure of the water. Apparently, the last time this happened to such an extent was in 1974.

It's nuts! My roommate works at Wonderland, in their theatre, and he told me that the entire theatre was under water! We're talking 3 to 4 inches of water all over it.
I saw photos of the 401 flooded like crazy. However, where I live (Just by College station) there was nothing but a bit of heavy rain. Oh well.
