I totally agree. My Taffy is the best and most affectionate, lovable, fun , playful kitty I could possibly have and she is extra special to me and my parents.

I think she rocks as a kitty and I wouldn't change her for the world.

I give you so much respect to have that kind of love for animals and patience to do it.
What you are doing is wonderful and people need to know that instead of you going and getting a kitten you are saving a needed kitty that deserves to have love and a warm place that it knows it's safe and loved. You're doing a great job and we all know you are, some people look for the easy way to do things but doing it the hard way has a bigger pay off in the end as you know. Being able to see the change and the love they give you.

I think it is OK for some people/cats to like other people/cats more than others (if you get my meaning!) Just as we have human friends we like especially then we can accept that we mesh with some cats more than others. But that doesn't mean we can insult the other ones! Among my friends there are those who always prefer one of my cats over the others, and my cats often prefer certain of my friends. Dushka will go straight to one of my friends, and sleeps on her bed if she stays over. To me it just proves that every cat is different with its own personality, just as my friends are.

Thanks everyone.... it's nice to know I am not a raving lunatic. At least not in this situation.

I agree that all cats are different with their own personality. Abby is a completely different cat than Molly. We were so hurt by the loss of Molly, we made sure we adopted a completely different cat - opposite color , very young, etc. We wanted to cut back on the comparisons by others, and ourselves. We knew that Abby was never going to a replacement for Molly, and don't expect her to be - but let's say we had adopted another middle-aged calico, comparisons would have been inevitable.

What bothers me the most, is that they aren't giving my baby a chance. These comments are coming from people who have only seen her once or twice. How can you compare an young cat, that we have had a few months, to a senior cat we had for 8 years? Give poor Abby time to settle in and get to know everyone.

I've been thinking about this Rigel and it's really been bothering me. I am going totally off-topic here. Here in the US , it seems like it is OK for woman to be crazy about their pets, but not men, especially if that man owns a cat. My husband has experienced this at work before, and so have I. Anyone else run into this?

Don't worry about a thing anyone says...You will only truly get support from fellow animal lovers....You are a courageous wonderful soul for adopting an adult cat with health issues and you should be commended for being so wonderful...
I got alot of flack from bringing Lovey into the house as he was aggressive and not very nice..I felt alot of pressure "to just give him back and go get a kitten"...but I knew that he would be worth it..Months later, he is my loving sweetheart...
Just give Abby time and try to ignore the comments.

I agree that people who do not share their lives with animals have NO clue what these little beings mean to us and how they enrich our lives. You will run into insensitive people everywhere, no matter what the subject matter. People just don't think before they open their mouths to say something, most of the time.

I worried what everyone would think of me getting Sophie only 2 days after Sunni died, but I finally decided that it didn't matter what anyone thought. This was my business and I had my reasons that those who really knew me would understand.

My rule is never judge someone, period. You enjoy Abby. That's all that matters. Those who don't understand don't need to.

It just plays into the old gender stereotypes.
Kitties are generally soft and cuddly and small, the antithesis of what a man is supposed to like. On the other hand, if that same man has a big hunting dog, its totally cool.

My BF tells people he doesn't like the kits because they wake him up and I slather them with loving, neglecting him
but when he gets home, the first thing he does is pick Lovey up and give him a kiss and then Rocky..(if you can even hold Lovey, its a big accomplishment so I know he loves on him lots when I am not here
)...
