I have been stressed out a lot recently -- due to work, school, plus with the introduction of a new cat to my resident. Oh my goodness! Where's the tequila bottle?!?!?!?

I noticed that both of my cats are acting strange around me too, and I am suspecting they are picking up on the fact that I am very worn out by everything and am ready to snap at certain things (not them particularly). Do you think that's the case? Let me know your stories!

They most definitely pick up on it, as well as our other emotions.

If I'm stressed, or depressed, I can't keep my cats off of me, and most are fairly independant, not much into cuddling etc.

If I'm angry, or upset about something, the cats just seem to disappear and go off to do their own things.

I was in stressed out mode, trying to get a lot of stuff done before I left for vacation. Sam hid the entire day before I left. I thought he might be sick, then realized he was just picking up on my stress levels.

Arlyn, the other day I was crying about something and cassie (who is normally stand-offish) started doing figure-8s around my feet, and jumped up next to me. So I think she senses that I have a lot going on too. Of course my other one is like "Whatever" and keeps me going LOL. Thanks for your inputs, I appreciate it

Hey, a fellow tequila lover!

Yeah, cats can most certainly pick up on if you're sick, stressed, upset or angry.

When I am angry; they all hide. Even my most sociable cats disappear. Heck even the AC stops running when I'm angry!

When I'm sad / PMSing, my cats are there... on my lap, surrounding me.

The one and only time I was sick in the last few years (pneumonia), I couldn't keep Dusty off of me. She stayed with me, followed me. The boycats slept on my feet! They were trying to comfort me I think.

When I'm stressed, Cupid stays around me but if I so much as sigh, he's outta here. Most of the time I couldn't get him off me if I tried. If I put him down, he'd jump right back up...over, and over, and over...

So I definately think he knows when I'm stressed and irritable.

My hubby and I just noticed that if we have a fight, argument, or whatever, Mitts goes ballistic. He hates it and he takes it out on us! Bites, scratches, etc.

An incentive to get along

If my fiance' and I are yelling at each other, the dog will go get a toy and force us to pay attention to him.

Yes, they do. No doubt about it. I get pampered by 3 of my five when I'm not well, and for those times when I'm emotionally exhausted and/or sad/upset, Esse and Simon won't leave me be.

They're great....

Best-
Michele
