Yesterday I was going to hit the bad post alert button, but then I read the criteria: "Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts." It wasn't really harrasment, fighting or rude, it just didn't seem true and could be hurtful to members who may really have gone through those same circumstances.

This was after I tried to PM a mod, but then checked my sent messages and couldn't find it. (I'm sure I did something wrong when I went to send it
) I had to leave my computer soon and knew that a mod had posted on that thread, so I thought it was being watched anyways.

My question - In a case like that is it better to PM a mod or to use the bad post button?

BTW, the post I'm referring to is gone. Thanks, Mods!

Being a newbie at this our more experienced Mods will advise better, but if it's any help i've pressed the alert button a few times when something hasn't seemed right in a post. So if the posts gone now then your gut instinct must have been correct i'd say

I would use the "Report Post" button. If you doubted the truth of the post and were worried about how others might respond, I'd say it was a problematic post.

While we don't want to be innundated with Reported Posts, if there is something just not right about a post or member (possible troll, underage poster), or if you see a thread going toward trouble, go ahead and report it! With the addition of our new moderators we sure hope we can cover the vast majority of the forums, but we can't be everywhere at once.
So we do appreciate alert members giving us a heads up either via PM or by reporting the post.

Here's the Report Post gif:

Secondly, I prefer it if people report posts. It's the quickest and easiest way to find a post. We get both a direct link to the post and one to the thread. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a thread sometimes when someone sends a PM and describes the thread.
