Hi I hope these is someone that can help. My cat is 8 years old and although overweight she is otherwise healthy. Recently she started losing weight and has had a VERY foul odor coming from her feet. I have had her to the vet but they do not know what it could be. She is eating, drinking and using the litter regularly. But the smell still exists. Does anyone have any advice. I am looking forward to some ideas. Thanks.

Did the vet do any blood tests? I would be concerned about a cat suddenly starting to lose weight, especially if their eating habits haven't changed.

Thanks everyone! Smokey is scheduled for bloodwork. She is just not herself. Her paws still smell like rotten meat and they are now sore. I'll let you know how we make out. Hoping for the best.

I hope the vet can figure out what's troubling Smokey. Best of luck to you two.

Hi Everyone. I am pleased to announce that Smokey will be OK. We found the cause for the odor. Smokey had pulled out several of her claws and they had become infected. The vet that did the initial checkup had missed this so he would not give her an antibiotic. Poor Smokey had to fight this infection on her own. The reason for the weight loss. The vet does not think she is out of the woods and wants me to watch her. At least it was not her liver or kidneys. Although still a slight odor they smell much better. Thanks Everyone.

I'm sorry to hear that Smokey has had to go through so much, but I'm thankful he's on the mend!

Poor little guy... The vet that did the initial checkup should be fired.

I agree 100% that he should be fired but he owns the practice. He is in some turmoil though. All the other vets have quit and he has lost alot of his clients. I'm just happy that Smokey will be around for many more years. Thanks
