Smoker, for far too long now.
Tried cold turkey and patches to quit, with no luck, can't afford to try the better methods out there, but I'd sure be willing to otherwise.
Huge kudos to all of you that have successfully given up this disgusting habit!
geez, someone help me... i started smoking awhile back, and since i have got back to oklahoma it has gotten worse, both of my parents smoke and my best girlfriend smokes(and we are constantly together) I think between 5pm tonight and 11pm i smoked a pack and a half.... and i am regreting it... my chest is so tight right now
that is sooo not a usual thing though, i usually smoke half a pack a day
i have just been running around all evening and it was one right after another
i am trying to quit, but with everyone smoking around me it is hard...
i always vowed to myself i would never start (had a bad experience when i was younger) and against all odds i started. i am disappointed with myself
Ex-smoker here as well - though I was never really hard-core, just did it cuz it was "cool" in HS
Meagan, try NOT buying/carrying a pack for a while - I know when I quit, if I had to bum one I'd think twice about asking - I don't like bein a mooch. It may not get you cold turkey, but it will definitely cut back for you, and then just think how much better your chest will feel once you've quit.
I actually bummed one the other night when I was out - ONE, mind you! - and I regretted it for two days!!! Throat was on fire, head was blocked. NEVER doing that again!
Smoker here, married to a man who works for a big tobacco company so I don't have to buy 'em. I think if I was forced to actually pay for ciggies, I would put them down and never pick them up again the way they cost anymore! Whoooooo doggie, those are some costly habits, those ciggies!
Non-smoker. Though I used to smoke when I would drink at nightclubs/pubs -- the two kind of go hand in hand for me. I don't drink or smoke at all anymore -- totally staight edge.
you bet it would Gaye - when I lived in TN I'd occasionally buy a pack for "going out" - beer and cigs just go together, ya know - and I didn't think too much of it because the tobacco taxes are so low there. HERE, however, a cheap pack will cost you better than $4!! - "my" brand around $5. Hence the bummed one the other night, and the lack of need to purchase my own. No cigs, no habit!
Non smoker. Never have been never will be. Although I do joke about it sometimes. But nope..bad bad for ya. Blecky. My dad started smoking in the service. Quit when my mom found out she would have me. started after the divorce...and just quit because they added more tax on it here..
Although in my defense, I go into a seperate room to smoke now, never around the kitties
I really should quit as they've just passed the £5 a pack mark (what's that, $8?). I bought a Paul Mckenna dvd last week which may help if I ever get round to watching it
I'm concentraing on losing a bit of weight at the moment, and I don't think it's fair to give up ciggies and chocolate all in the same week!
I have been smoking on and off since I was 14 but now I smoke on a regular basis. Normally about 5 a day so it's not too bad, but bad enough. AND really expensive too...
I will give up one day as I have done it before and can do it again....
Ok, I'm kinda embarrassed to say that I was in the middle of reading this thread when one of my co-workers came by to grab me for a cigarette break (20 minutes into work).
I'd like to quit but just haven't been able to as of yet. It's definitely getting far to expensive a habit $5-6 a pack nowadays.
Been smoking for 15 years...good Lord, that sounds horrible...since I was 16!! I have tried a dozen or more times to quit but I always pick it backup again as soon as I'm around a smoker. I need WILL POWER! I do have to say, it relaxes me but I hate the way I smell afterwards. I am trying to quit again in September...anybody want to try it with me? It always helps to quit in pairs!
I am so happy to say I gave up a 2 carton a week habit 5 years ago. I figure at 35.00 a carton which is the going rate here I am saving around 3600 bucks a year not counting the misc expences like cleaning and med costs...lol
