How many babies is it normal for a first time mother cat to give birth to? I've heard no more than 3-4 otherwise the cat isn't healthy. Is this true? How many is too many?

I am fostering a cat who just had her first litter of 6! Just as long as she has enough nipples that produce milk. Their isn't too many

I don't know if there is a normal amount of kittens for a first time mother. With a larger litter it will be more important to make sure that all the kittens are getting adequate time with mom's nipple since there may be more competition...however a smaller litter doesn't guarentee either healthy kittens or a healthy mom.
