first off I have to say thank you to everyone on this website. You are all so friendly and always have an answer to the things I ask. I couldn't find a better place to consult!!!!

My kittens are now 5 weeks old. I have put a litter box in the room where they stay and today when I came home there was poop all over. The mother must not be cleaning it up anymore so is there a certain way to teach them how to use the litter. I have caught a couple of them in the litter box, but they look like they are just playing. I have found nothing of the sort that they have used the litter box.
Any suggestions would be great!! THANKS ALOT

Try something with shorter sides like a cookie sheet.
Kittens have a tough time making over the edge of litterboxes.
Mom cat should teach them how and what to do with litter.
Several littertrays are also a good idea when you have babies that are just learning.

I agree with Arlyn... Try a cookie sheet or cassarole dish. Put the kittens in the box often... They will figure it out!

You know what I used for my foster kittens was the box top of the Xerox boxes. Worked really well.

While my kitten was litter box trained when I got him, he was weened too early and I adopted him at about 5 weeks, so just in case I bought a small shallow box and Cat Attract litter. Cat Attract is supposed to be helpful with kittens and cats who quit using the litter box. He took to the new litter right away with no accidents.

Good luck with those babies!

They should also be confined in a small room like a bathroom until they are trained. Better still would be to confine mom and the kittens to a cage.

I was having trouble with my 8wk old and I confined him to the bathroom after he ate and played and then through the night he also slept in there and after a week he was using it all by himself, I would keep it clean daily except for 1 mishap, i would take and put in there for him to get the smell, I never thought he was gonna use it but behold...
it just takes a little patience and time, good luck and enjoy those babies.

well the box I bought for the kittens is from walmart. It was the smallest one they had.. And they do go in it. But they don't use it for a bathroom they use it to play!

So I will try that confined room thing. That should help them out. Sounds like a great idea! I guess everything takes time, I just get so anxious and worried sooo fast!!

Thank you !!!!!!!
