Hi all, my girlfrind who lives with me has a Tabby cat and the cat is nuts about her. I was thinking about getting an abyssinian after I went to a cat show the other day and saw them there. They are beautiful and from what I heard from the breeder a wonderful charactered cat.

I want a cat that likes attention and like being around me. I would like to take her for walkes sometimes and cuddle with her at night.

Does anyone have an aby or have any experiance with them who can offer me some insite into their personalities.

I don't know about Abyssinians but I think it fair to say that all cats, like all children, are different and have individual personalities. They will all love you but in their own ways, and some love petting and will not leave you alone, others hate being picked up by anyone. If you get a healthy kitten without serious trauma in its background then you have a good chance of being able to bond with it in the way you want, but some people (me included) have street rescues who have turned out to be the most loving and gentle cats anyone could imagine. Good luck with your choice.

I think i was really lucky when i got mine... he is a moggy mixed with Turk Absyssnian i think (well, the vet thinks that). All for a bargain price of a 10 quid donation! Bless him. true, i don't think that you can predict a cats personality. They are who they are, and, i've found, the more you try and make them something they aren't, the more they don't do it! Blimmin independance!

At the kitty's beck and call
I think it's certainly worthwhile doing your research. Certain breeds do have traits that are common to the breed but within that it is true that the cats will have their own characters. When buying a cat from a breeder I think it's also valuable to find out what the parents' characters are like. Lily and her sister (not from the same litter) have very similar characters, even though they never lived together. They do have the same parentage though. They like the same things and behave in the same way. They both also exhibit the general characteristics of their breed.

I've read that Abys are loving and they are people cats, they are also able to be trained to take walks and some have been know to play fetch. I suppose that you cant tell what a cat is going to be like because each one will be different but like flisssweetpea said there are certain traites that can be predicted.

My only real worry are my dogs, twp rotties but they are very well natured. I'm sure that if she goes up around them and if they get to know her froma baby they will like her.

Actually there is another worry, the parrot that lives in my house, its an african grey and sits quite high up on its cage. People tell me that cats wont try and like a parrot on but there is not competition of she had to het hold of him she would most definatly win. Any suugestions

I would contact the breeder and describe your other concerns around the additional pets in the house. Abys are also known for being extremely active, so keeping them with a parrot (especially one who sits outside its cage)... I really don't know if it's such a good idea.

Perhaps you could contact Barb (jugen) by PM. She has an Aby called Rocket (suitable name for an Aby!
) and though I believe she's quite busy at the moment, perhaps if you send her a PM, she can give you more insight into the breed (she has multiple cats, though I don't know if she has anything other than cats).
