It takes a lot of patience and determination, but a feral kiten can be tamed. About 21 years ago, my hubby and I lived in an apartment where the lady downstairs had a cat. That cat would disappear for weeks at a time and one time she came hope with a litter of kittens. Only one of the kittens survived the traffic and the dogs and I was determined to make a pet of the one remaining kitten. I would leave food for her and after awhile, she would take food from my hand. The trust was a long time coming, but eventually she came to trust me completely. Once the trust was established, she would come to me to be petted and loved.
In the early years of Kiki's life, I was not a responsible pet owner and she had several litters of kittens, but I did get her spayed eventually. By that time, she was no longer feral and was a loving gentle cat. My hubby adored her and "stole" her heart from me. She adored him. She became a totally inside kitty.
Last year, she became very sick and at the age of 20, I had to put her to sleep. She had kidney failure and the vet said there was nothing he could do. I was with her as the vet gave her the injection and petted and loved her as she died. Since my hubby and I never had kids, she was my oldest child, and I grieve for her today. My screen name was created over 10 years ago to honor her love.
