Question about FHL

Hi guys,

Not that I am concerned about my cats, but wondered what your kitty's preliminary symptoms of FHL when you noticed something was wrong? Besides the obvious sign of "not eating?" Thank you, appreciate the feedback

Lethargy is a big one. I was able to catch Spot's not eating soon enough that he only had elevated liver enzymes rather than full-blown FHL (Feline Hepatic Lipidosis). Eating less or not at all can also cause smaller or harder stools. Spot became somewhat constipated, and he ended up with a very sore bum and a partly protruding anus from exertion. If you notice your cat not eating for more than a day, then it is a good idea to get them checked out. It is also a good idea to keep some of the "tasty" foods on hand, like Fancy Feast, to tempt the cat and see if you can get them to eat. If they go too long without eating, they will get into a vicious cycle of anorexia and you may have to force-feed them to break it. Appetite stimulants can also be very helpful.

Cloud Shade, thank you. I have another question -- was your kitty drinking water?

I think he was. He's always been a big water-drinker though, and his water consumption may have dropped a little when he wasn't eating.
