Hi Everyone - I just adopted two kittens this weekend. They are both adorable! These are the first cats I've had.. I grew up with dogs my whole life, but living in an apartment I didn't think having a dog would be fair to it, so I got two kittens to keep each other company.

Yesterday night, one of the kittens (12 weeks old) started pushing with his paws and sucking. At first he was doing it to the stomach of the other kitten, but I felt bad that he kept waking the kitten up, so I moved him over next to me. He would claw at my arm in a sort of pushing/grabbing motion with one paw at a time and then he would put his mouth on my arm and bite down lightly. Does anyone know what this is? It seems to me that he is almost looking for milk.. this is what I've seen puppies do to their moms when they feed. Does anyone know what this is, and should I be worried?

thanks!!

No, there's nothing to be worried about. He's just kneading you and suckling like he would on momcat. It's common among kittens who are taken from their mothers at a young age. It's a comforting behavior and a sign of relaxation and even affection. My nearly 5 year old cat Ivo still kneads when I give her lovings.

Awwwww
Your kitty feels comfortable with you & is acting out a kitten behavior. Your kitty will do that all his life. Relax & enjoy.

No there is nothing wrong - enjoy it! He is showing you love and trust and acting out a very natural kitten behaviour.

Some cats continue to do it all their lives - Cairo still does it and she's seven. And Sunday and Princess both knead and they are seven and ten! I think it's adorable (most of the time...lol)

My boys both do this too. If I lay on the sofa, they'll both come running over, lay down on my chest, and purr for all they're worth whilst sucking and kneading my neck. I take it as meaning they're comfortable with me, and happy!

My cat Pearl is 8 years old and still sucks on my ear about 4 or 5 times a day while kneading on my chest or face!!!! She started this the first day I got her. And I love it. I think it has made us that much closer so just enjoy.

Bijou has to have his little suckle before bed every night. I also have to keep his claws clipped as he seems to need to knead my face and neck at the same time.

Sometimes we just have to come close to him and he starts purring. Cats are SO PRECIOUS!
