I am sort of new to owning cats. I mean I had one a long time ago when I was a kid, and it was the family cat. It was a stray we adopted, and I was little so I really paid no mind to what it takes to taking care of a cat. And of course I've been around many since then...

Anyway I'm in search of a kitten and I was searching petfinder to find a rescue in need. I found one adorable little boy listed as special needs. Apparently he was infected with distemper before his first shot. The rescuer says that he survived but suffers some minor neurological damage that causes him to fall over when he runs.

Now my question is... Has anyone experienced a cat with a similar disablity? And does anyone know if I can possibly expect this neurological damage to worsen over the years...? I mean I know I'd get some answers from a vet, but I figured I'd ask around first, and find out opinions at least.

I had a rat not long ago that suffered neurological damage, and the vet said she wouldn't worsen. But it was hard to tell if it worsened because she was nearing the end of her life anyway.

Anyway.. thanks for reading this long thing. Sorry about it. I talk too much haha.

I have no advice but wanted to welcome you to TCS. I think its wonderful you are thinking of adopting a rescue kitten. I'm sure someone helpful will be along shortly.

Sounds like something not likely to get worse , i just saw one with that trouble at an adoption fair .. the kitten moved well as long as you didnt touch the rear section.... How old is the kitten?? what other info did they give on it ...

Oh thanks very much. I'm very excited about it.

Recently my aunt rescued a cat but now it turns out that the cat hates her, and is sort of mean to her, and she has some problems getting along with it. It's also microchipped and she signed a contract that she can't give the cat away, instead give it back to the shelter, which she doesn't want to do.

So of course I want to make sure that I make the best decisions before making a complete commitment that may not work out for either of us.

Well not much info so far. Just what i said above, and that he's 12 weeks old, has been treated for fleas and worms, altered, up to date on shots and that the disability doesn't slow him down.
