Good God Almighty. I had forgotten how horrible UTI's are! I first felt it this evening something felt a little strange, then next time I went to the bathroom ACK! I have been drinking a lot because I know that will help to flush stuff out. I had a diflucan left from when i got ringworm from a stray cat, I took that because I am so desperate. I have no idea if it has any antibiotic properties, but I know it is anti-yeast. I have tried to sleep and as soon as I lie down I can't stand it I have to use the bathroom then I am cramping so bad : (

Sorry to vent here. I told my spouse what's wrong with me while he's laying peacefully in bed for 2+ hours reading, and all he says was "I think I have that too!" I'm like, listen buddy you have been laying there comfy for 2 hours! :censor::censor::censor:! but of course all I could do was sympathize?!?! Men are such wimps when it comes to pain and being sick and all and whenever I have a problem I feel like instead of getting sympathy from him he has to "one up" me by saying yeah, my whatever hurts bad or whatever.

*sigh* sorry to vent.

And I was going to try to ride my horse for a few short steps this morning : (

I also vowed not to go back to my doctor because I got a copy of my chart to give to a surgeon and I read the chart and he called me rude and degrading in his notes. I was just so upset because being "rude and degrading" isn't a medical condition!!! AND Peter has been to the doctor with me almost every time I had to go and he says I was always friendly... So HMMMPH!

So i guess in the morning I find a new doctor!

Just had to vent... Now I've got to pee again since my mind is clear and not preoccupied with writing : (

Sam, be VERY glad you can't imagine.

Prissy, I am so, so sorry. Have you got any cranberry juice?? In addition to the extra water, cran juice can help flush that stuff faster.

Rude and degrading?? Are you sure? I know Dr's handwriting is attrocious, maybe you misinterpreted
I cannot imagine a trained physician writing that in a pt's chart for any reason unless there was a psych issue in play, but if that's what it really says then YES by all means find another doc!!!

Lots of }}}}feel better{{{{ vibes coming your way - hope tomorrow's better, and your hubby gets a clue.

I asked Peter to go to the 24 hr wal-mart and get me some cranberry juice but he said he felt too bad to go : ( So no cranberry juice. I did drink some powerade. and some water and I think the vitamin c is helping.

And unfortunately, no, I did not interpret the doctor's notes wrong : ( He dictates his charts so they are typed out. He also said some other derrogatory comments about me in the chart. *sigh*

Thanks for the happy thoughts : )

Thanks Wellie : ) err Wellington. Wellington was the name of my beloved Bombay that passed a few years ago, her nickname was Wellie!

Anyhow, about the UTI, if you've never had one I thought of an interesting way to splain it.

WARNING - EXPLICIT PAINFUL STUFF

You know how when you get a mosquito bite or a bug bite you know you shouldn't itch it because you know that will just make it worse, but you really want to itch it because it will feel so gratifying for the moment?

That's how a UTI feels. It feels like you have to pee ALL THE TIME. And you know you don't have to pee because you just tried to pee 10 minutes earlier and nothing came out. But it's like you go anyways because you get some rellief, but then as soon as anything comes out you cramp up so bad and it feels like someone hit you in the **&$)@ with a baseball bat.

So it's one of those horrible cycles, like the bug bite...

Cystitis is the worst thing - I have been prey to them all my life. Cranberry juice and live yeast help, but once you actually have one you must have antibiotics to get rid of it completely. I used to get a French medicine called Rufol that was magic, but now I can't get it any more. So I did some web research as to the best antibiotics for kidney/urinary problems. The last one I got I bought Bactryl (OTC here, but prescription most places) and that worked well, if not quite as quickly as the Rufol. I have spent up to a fortnight in bed with UTIs so I know how you feel. I hope you get some relief soon.

I hate them too, bane of any woman's existance...

You know what the worst part is about UTI's? The fact that men get them so rarely...my hubby hasn't had one in his entire 32 years!

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Some really good advice for the one and only time I have experience of this. Whilst it's at its worst, a pint of water every half hour. Really flushes the things through. Plus some paracetomol (following dosage instructions on the packet) to take away the pain. After about 5 hours of the pint of water thing (that was a very long and lonely night) the pain started to go and many of the symptoms cleared. I wish I had thought about the paracetomol at the start of the night
. By the next morning it was pretty much gone. But I took antibiotics (don't know the name of them they were prescribed by the Dr) for the next 7 days to make sure the infection was gone.

I hope you feel better soon - I know it was pure misery.

Oh they are such horrible things - I follow all the advice and precautions but I still seem prone to them. When I start to get that feeling my heart sinks...

A wheat pack warmed in the microwave and then placed on the lower tummy is my FAVOURITE thing when I feel bad. Parsley, cranberry juice(as you know) are also good to drink/eat...

I just have to say, I completly understand. I go through gallons of cranberry juice a week and i still end up getting about 4 or 5 severe UTI's everyyear. So bad that i cant even sit down.

I get them so often, all I do is call my doc and tell him i need meds and he fills the prescription, no appointment or tests.

What do you usually get for them? The doc always gives me an anti-biotic(cipro) and a numbing med(which turns your urine a really bright orange color), it is called Pyridium. It works great!

I really hope you feel better soon.
These are no fun to have!!

The anti-spasmodic they gave me I think Pyridium is what it was made me throw up and feel even worse. One of my friend emailed me and told me there is some OTC medication for UTI's now? I find that hard to believe, anyone know anything about this? I wonder if they have it at Wal-Mart...

Yeah Azo Standard.

Anyhow I just got back from the doctor and they did the urine test and the nurse practitioner walks in and she says "Looks Like you have a UTI!" I'm like, duh, I told you that remember ; P So anyways they gave me an antibiotic which hopefully will have me feeling better soon. Thanks for all the well-wishes you guys.

I know exactly why I got this. We had sex at 4 am the other morning and usually I am very picky about us either both being freshly showered within the last 4 hours or we wash first, but I didn't this time because it was 4 am! That'll teach me to let my guard down *sigh*

There are no OTC antibiotics...(thank God) which is what you probably need. And please don't self medicate with other meds....just like if it was your cat...Go to the doctor!

I am very susceptible to UTIs, and I try to avoid taking antibiotics whenever I can. When I get a UTI I try to drink lots of water and I also drink pure, unsweetened cranberry juice--you can get it at health food stores. Also, there is an over the counter pain reliever you can get at the drug store that helps (it does turn your pee orange though!) If it doesn't go away after a few days you should probably go to a doctor--in college I had a UTI so bad it spread to my kidneys. Not good!

Last time I had a UTI my husband was being a good dooby and taking care of me and said "How do you feel, honey?" and I said "Well, other than that whole peeing broken glass and molten lava thing, I'm fine!" LOL

I used to get UTI's all the time with all the meds I take, changing all the time but now since I've started to take what's called Cran-max, (it's a vitamin I got at Walmart) I haven't had one since. It's WONDERFUL! I take one each night and haven't had problems with UTI's OR bladder infections. Both of which I've had problems with since I've been on so many different meds. It's good for yeast infections too but for some reason doesn't cure ALL of them.
But you should try the cran-max. If you can't find it at Walmart, look at GNC. It's there too.
