A friend is having terrible problems with a feral cat colony in Northern New
Jersey. She cannot find a support system to help her trap and neuter a
colony of 25+ cats. Does anyone have suggestions on how to start getting a
colony of this size under control with no money and no help? The only
suggestions she's gotten is to call animal control and have them euthanized,
which is not an option for her. Besides the size of the colony, there are
problems because the cats are located next to a restaurant which won't let
her feed the cats nearby. She is just at her wits end. Can anyone help?

thanks,
donna

Hi Donna,
I maintain a large feral cat colony in Californa. For starters, I contacted my
local Feral Cat Coaltion. They provide use of traps and fund for spay/neuter
clinics. I had to make lots of calls to rescue groups in my local area to find
all the people that have the same mindset as me to want to get a Feral
Cat Colony under control. I did find I had to sometimes buy my own trap
and find a vet that was willing to reduce spay/neuter charges. For the
most part the Cat Coalition pays for feral services.

Check and see what your local area provides. As far as the restaurant goes,
your friend would be actually providing a valuable service to the restaurant
and the community. Feral cats often carry diseases and soon their will be
tons more cats by next spring.! ( the pain and suffering is horrible and sad)

Don't give up,phone and write rescue groups, call local TV stations if
you have to get the word out. There should be some kind of Feral Cat Coalition in your county or nearest city.

Good Luck
