To put it bluntly, I really suck at cooking anything.
Unless it's microwavable or easy to prepare, forget about it!

Anyone else here burn pre-cooked packaged goods in the oven consistently?

Funny thing is, I'm actually a GREAT baker! I can bake all kinds of desserts from scratch.

that's too funny!!

You and I have the exact opposite problem!, I will burn anything I have to put into the oven, but I'm great at cooking meals on the stovetop.

I cant even hard boil an egg propper. Making toast is hard enough with all those settings of 'Dark to Light'. I have said it before, " You do the cooking and i will do the cleaning". One thing i can make is a grilled cheeze sandwhich. But thats the hight of my skill.

Hmmmm, interesting question! I used to be a pretty good cook! But DH is so darn picky (although age has mellowed him somewhat) that he's pretty much taken over the cooking chores. Nowadays the only time I really cook is holiday meals as DH is clueless when it comes to following a recipe or turning out an acutal "meal" as opposed to frozen chicken breasts that are popped in the oven for an hour!

I really like to cook, but it takes me at least twice to get any given recipe right.
I DO try a lot of new things, though! Maybe I will improve as time goes on...(I've only been COMPLETELY cooking for myself for a year)

Oh yes you will get better if you enjoy it, I have been doing it for 40 years
just when you been doing it that long sometimes you do get tired of it

I love to cook, especially for dinner parties or making a couple of different interesting appetizers for a cocktail party. One of my favorite things my girlfriends (and gay male friends
) do is have potluck dinners.
I'm not a bad baker, it just doesn't interest me as much--I'm not really a big dessert person, but I have been known to make some pretty good brownies.
If I had more time I'd probably bake more often, but I do enjoy making fresh whole wheat bread in my bread machine. Packaged bread is so gross and fake tasting to me.

My mom is basically Martha Stewart, Christmas at my house involves like 8 different types of cookies, so I guess it's in my blood!

I don't like cooking, but I'm good at it. It's just because I can follow directions. If I have a recipe it always turns out well. I'm no good at cooking meat though--I don't know how people do it! I always end up burning the outside trying to get the inside done!

I'm a good cook only because I'm a foodserver at heart, and I can't bear to let anyone eat lousy food!! The chefs would show me tips & techniques, so I do alot of creations, but if my hubby wants a repeat, I often forget how I did it! And following a recipe usu. bores me, I always want to try something different. I love baking & putting up jams & preserves too. Food is just something I love!!! And I love to feed people, cats, etc. I even love saving treats for my hens that they get every evening while I collect eggs.

I love to cook. I have a few things that I make really really well, but i love to experiment more than anything else. I love spices (and when i moved, i counted them... 109 different kinds of spices.) and i use them in everything i make.

I rarley cook though, I dont have anyone to cook for and I dont want to make all the food for myself, cuz god knows, if it turns out good, i'll eat it all.... and that could only end badly.

Movin' on up!
I am a very good cook, with two exceptions: gravy and eggs over easy. For the life of me, I cannot make gravy. I wind up with little brown lumps in the pan. Fortunately, a lot of the mixes and jarred gravies are quite good.

Bill's gravy isn't any better. I save it, for spackling nail holes in the walls

Other than the gravy, I rarely use anything pre-packaged. The cupboard over my stove is packed with spices and I have to restock frequently.

Ragu roasted garlic and Parmesan spaghetti sauce is good. I add sauteed shrimp, garlic and spices to it, though.

i can do scrambled, boiled and deviled eggs, any thing else turns out not so good...

i understand your gravy woes.... i finally gave up and just started buying the stuff you have to mix with water... works just as well... its either that, or no gravy!

i cant do pancakes either for some reason... my first one will be really good, and then the rest turn out really bad
that makes me soo mad!

Oh, how I wish we we neighbors! I could trade litter box chores for cooking! I am just sick and tired of cooking! And the cleanup after is even worse! I have basically taken the summer off, and just cook quick stuff on the grill. I'm sure the family will be ready for real meals here when the weather cools off.

I didn't vote, because I can cook, but really don't like to anymore! I'm not either a great cook, or a terrible cook, just average.
