For the most part, I find it very educational and interesting in IMO!
I tell my self, Hey, I know they can respect different opinions & independent thinking, after all they're cat owners!!

For the few who might really dislike me for what I write (sometime's I'm just playing Devil's advocate, trying to consider the other side, when I really agree), it's hard to be too upset - I'M not running for office & they don't pay my bills, right?

I speak my mind 24/7. Say it as it is..then go my way. If they don't like it...too bad. If they aren't going to speak to me anymore because of that simple little opinion..well then they aren't very smart now are they.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't really post there very often, though, I tend to post more in the cat-related threads than elsewhere.

Which one, Susan? which?

Its called IMO for a reason, I think.
I think that debate and argument is the spice of life. It allows you to learn and to grow and affords a space where people can say "ahhh. I didn't think of that way" or to possibly get another to admit the same.
On TCS, I like hearing all different viewpoints from cultural, religious or other perspectives.

Things can get heated, but its not personal. We should all remember that

Reminds me of a joke: Opinions are like A-holes, everyone has one!

Recently I felt strongly enough to give my opinion on something that I know offended some. Yet I may disagree with many things I feel strongly about, as I'm sure you do, but I don't think there's reason to be offended.

I believe we should be able to agree that we disagree. Period.

What are your views?
This should be moved to IMO!

I do not worry about what ppl think - most of the time anyway, lol - but I do not like to be personally attacked for having a certain point of view. I actually like to debate but to do it in a respectful way without hurting anyone's feelings. It is never necssary to attack an individual to make a point. In fact, that only dissuades and if irrelevant. So, I hope you feel feel free to post in the IMO again- I've admittedly not started any threads there but I have responded (I think, lol - I tend to just look at New Posts).

i feel that the IMO forum should be treated the same as a bedroom, what happens in there, stays in there

i used to get scared of posting in there too but i don't anymore, everyone has their own opinion and that's what makes us all so unique, i never get into very heated discussions but i have had differences of opinion to other members and so far that has not ruined any of my relationships here.

i think we are all too mature to let that happen

I am one of those people that will express my feelings no matter what if it's what I really feel and as long as I don't hurt someone... well, most the time I express my feelings. But I do understand how you feel... I word my words carefully when in a delicate situation. (I can't post in IMO, yet, but when I have an argument with someone or something like that.) I am also the type of person who takes things to heart, and I am easily offended, especially about certain things, i.e. religion, quality of my pet ownership, and other things....

I do read IMO threads occasionally... and I must admit that there are a few people that upset me, even though they weren't even talking to me, but about something that means a lot to me. But I don't HATE them for having a difference of opinion.

After reading everyone's posts, I found myself thinking -

hate the sin, love the sinner.

I won't dislike others because of their opinions. You guys are too much fun in the other forums.

I think that's a very healthy way to approach ANY posts here, but especially IMO posts, which can get more heated.

Glad I'm not the only one who can't always remember who said what

Seriously though, I'm not going to hate anyone for their opinion, and I hope no one hates me for mine. We may disagree, but so long as we can agree to disagree then all's well

The only thing that does bug me is narrowmindedness, people who refuse to even consider someone else's opinion, and preach as if their word is gospel (luckily I've met very few people like that here!)

I love different opinions. No matter how strong or P.C. stated. Thats called, "live and learn" as far as i am concerned. And i all so appriciate that a word writen is stronger than a word said. Kudos to any ony one who starts a thred in the IMO.

FOR VERY GOOD REASON! We know how we feel about it, and we are only Voicing Our Opinion!

Part of what makes it so awesome to be human is TO voice your opinion. Why have someone be silent, OR why HAVE someone silenced, when we're all so different, and we can all learn from each other?

That's why I love IMO, and I'm happy to post in there. I love & respect all the peoples here who voice their opinion and stand out, saying what they MEAN TO SAY when they MEAN TO SAY IT.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

A good bit of what I post about has to do with my profession- the military and domestic and sexual abuse. Admittedly, I do get very heated about those subjects because I am a professional in that field and I feel I am very educated about those topics. So when someone says something that contrasts all of the data and evidence and experiences dealing with these topics, I usually have to take a deep breath and wait a bit before responding
.
But, I like that others feel differently because then I have the opportunity to possibly educate others on something they might not know a lot about.

1) I like everyone here whether or not we agree on IMO.
2) If we all agreed, IMO would be really boring.
3) Differing opinions don't upset me, but personal attacks do. These include things like *snort*, TALKING REALLY LOUD, saying "if you don't agree tough, " etc. Its not what we say; its how we say it.

Sometimes its not the posters fault either. I know I can be overly sensitive and I dont think I'm the only one.
