Hi everyone.

Three days ago I got a beautiful little kitten, just over six weeks old. She's wonderful, very playful, friendly, eats well and uses her litter tray.

One small problem - and I've nevr experienced this with a kitten before - nearly every time she does a number 2, she immediately stands back straight onto it, and we then have to clean her paws for her.

She digs beforehand, and seems to dig to try to bury it afterwards, but the poop-treading is not good.

Is there something we can do to stop her or will she stop as she gets older?

It's meaning a lot of kitchen floor cleaning!

Cheers for any advice, Chris

Nope nothing you can do at the moment, except keep her litter clean and don't use clumping litter. She should still be with mom. Mom would be showing her how to potty correctly. She will just have to learn. Just keep a supply of warm damp rags around for when she steps in it.

OK, thanks. Do you know how long it's likely to take her to learn? We are both on holiday for another 2 or 3 weeks and can watch over her.

I assume she won't actually enjoy having stepped in it?!

We were assured by the previous owner whe was ready to leave.

I got my kittens at eight weeks old. That was 3 weeks ago. The first few days my male kitten did that...I would have to wash him etc. Then all of a sudden it didn't happen. I don't know if he just figured it out or what! I'm sure yours will soon!

Kittens should stay with their mother longer than 6 weeks, that's for sure.
I wouldn't get them earlier than 10 weeks. I suppose the owner didn't know any better.

And I always thought 6-8 weeks was OK... Oh well, at least she's healthy and rarely stops purring.

Thanks for the advice!

I just got an 8-week-old siamese kitten on Sunday. Someone suggested I keep her in the bathroom with the door closed until she gets used to being in a new house. The woman I bought her from told me she was litter trained, but I can't seem to get her to go IN the litter box. Twice now she has pooped in the bathtub. I even put the poop in the litter box and showed her, but she doesn't like going into it. I'm wondering if I got one that is too tall? Any suggestions?
