My poor sis-in-law has been so through so much these last 2 years, she lost her baby girl Shih Tzu 2 years ago, and in the same year lost one of her Cats to renal failure, then this year she lost her Beautiful Boy Abyssinian to cancer of the mouth. Now she found out today that her Very sweet Gental Black and White male Cat has Liver failure, he is a very big cat I would say at least 20 lbs or so, and he is down to 11, so she took him to the vet yesterday, they called her this morning and told her, they said there's really nothing they can do, he hasn't been eating to good so she got him some Science Diet and she said he ate a large amount of that. The Vet said he may live a month, and she said as long as he is eating then she would not put him to sleep. Please say a Prayer for Her and Garby he is such a beautiful Big boy, and it brakes my Heart she has been through so much, Thanks for the Good Vibes in Advance.

I am so sorry for her. I hope that she finds a way to keep him with her and enjoying life as long as possible.

My sis-in-laws cat is going down hill fast he has liver failuer, I am so angrey because she won't do what's right for him, I know it's not easy to make that choice, I don't even want to ask her how he is, she said he's not eating or drinking stays hide and his stomach is swelling, I am just so sad for him, she said as she has before I will take him next week if he doesn't start eating (duh) he's not going to and she knows that, how or what do you say to someone who just can't do what's right, she did this with the last 2 cats she had also, and I am the one who gave them to her, this is breaking my Heart she has been wanting one of the kittens that I rescued But I'm sorry I just won't do that.

I just read in another thread that it is a criminal offense to withhold medical care for an animal in some states of the US and that doing so is considered cruelty. I don't know if this is true, but this is certainly what your SIL is doing. Please try to talk to her about getting this kitty to a vet and see what he/she has to say.

I know how hard a situation it is, all you can do is educate her on the subject and talk to her, tell her how important it is for him to see the vet, as there is still a chance they can give him something to give him a bit of extra time. The swelling stomach worries me though. I can't blame you for not wanting her to have one of your kittens, even though she will get one from somewehere anyway.

The poor kitty! I hope you sister comes to her senses soon and does the right thing by the poor kitty.

I know how helpless you feel, because 2 of my sisters should not have pets as well. One (my twin sis at that!) does not do right by her pets and the last 2 cats she had both disappeared in the same week! One was Chuckie and Spyders brother and I had bad feelings about her taking him in the first place.
Last summer when I was caring for the 2 kittens my nephew found, she wanted one and I kept making excuses as to why she couldn't have one and they wound up in good homes thankfully. She has no pets now and I really hope she doesn't get any in the future.

Well she had him to the Vet last week and according to the blood work and whatever else they did, they told her it was liver failuer, and that he would probaby last a month.
I think she's absloutly knows that he is not going to get better, and she just keeps putting off putting him to sleep, it's just sad he probably weighed 20 lbs now he is way down to below half of that, his stomach is swollen, not eating or drinkng, what good is it going to do to try and force feed him, I told her that he is not going to get better, and I think I am going to have to just tell her you are being cruel to him, you are not making any right choices for him, we do that because it's so hard to think about putting him to sleep, and if she says to me well I don't really know if he is suffering, well of course he is,how could he not be he's starving to death and blowing up. I'm sorry this is happening to her but it's time to step up and do what's right. I really don't care now if I hurt her feelings, mine are hurt because I know he's suffering.
