My family just adopted a kitten we rescued from a abandoned farm situation. This kitten looks to have feline Ataxia that was developed in utero.

Does anyone have any experience with raising a cat with Ataxia? This is more commonly known as wobbly kitten syndrome. Thank you in advance for any help.

I don't know anything about that, I'm sorry! Someone will be along shortly who can hopefully offer advice. I would suggest a vet visit.

Good luck with everything and please keep us updated! My prayers are with the litte one!

... and we believe the diagnosis is correct. Our question is has anyone ever raised one of these kittens to adulthood? What are the challenges like? From what we have read and heard most of these kittens are euthanized immediately. I don't think this is necessary in our case, but we want as much practical experiential information. Thanks.

You should try posting in the "Health" forum. You will probably get more answers there.

...no bites yet. We are hopeful that there might be someone out there who can shed some light on this. Vet told us she would blame us if we decided to euthanize. We don't want to, but we would like to know what challenges lie ahead.

...thank you. Oddly enough our other kitten is named Sadie as in your sig. We also have a dog named Eunice and a bunny named Abigail. The special kitten is Felix.

I'm sorry I don't know anything about feline ataxia. Personally I would not euthanize as long as the kitty is eating and seems well in other ways. That's just IMHO though.

My Annie was born with ataxia... vestibular ataxia, A.K.A. vestibular disease.

Click HERE for a wonderful website on ataxia.

Our vet put Annie on Felovite II vitamins. It helped her body to adapt faster by giving her the added nutrients she needed. She has made a remarkable improvement, and now lives her life like a normal kitty, though she still has some shakiness now and then. My first vet told me she wouldn't make it past three weeks. She's four months old now. It is very much beatable if you are willing to do it. I hope you can give her a chance.

I just reread this.... a kitten that has ataxia does NOT need to be euthanized immediately. My first vet recommended that I give her a few weeks, and then euthanize her, but I wanted a second opinion, and got one, and Annie is like a normal kitten now!
