Hi all

THis is my first post on this forum and a big hi to you all.

I have a big dillema, I offered to give me girlfrinds cat her medicine which was an anti biotic that has to be sprayed down her throught with a syringe.
I offered because I didnt want it to hate her, but now guess what, it hates me.

Actually hate my be a word that is not good enough, she despises me, every time I walk into the room she tucks tail and runs to hide, when I try and patt her she cringes and closes her eyes. Its driving me crazy because I like and it upsets me that she doesnt like me anymore.

Please any suggestions on how to get her to like me again would be most welcome, I keep trying but it is not really getting me anywhere.

Much appriciated

Well I remember when we first got Joey we had to give him ear drops for earmites. And he was a little scared, but we just kept showing him a lot of love and after awhile he warmed up to us.

Right now the kitty associates you with something she doesn't like--getting her medicine. When you first go over there, offer her treats. Let her come to you. Give her lots of love, and then let her go. Wait a while, then give her the medicine. That way, she will have good things to associate with you as well.

I had to give Sophie meds through a syringe twice a day when she had an upset tummy. After the 3rd day as soon as she saw me pick the box up she knew what was coming and started to run off, but straight after she had it i gave her a little tuna as a peace offering and she was fine

Just do something like that and show her plenty of love and attention after you've gave her it and she'll be your friend again.

I agree with the others. She'll get over it. Give her tuna or other treats and she'll get over it quicker.

Whenever I have medicine to give to my kitties, I not only give them treats afterward, I have those treats out of the package and sitting right where I can easily reach them. Then, IMMEDIATELY after administering their medicine to them, I hand them the treats. It works WONDERS!!!

You might also give the kitty treats, when you go into the house, and first see the kitty that day. So, you may have to carry a few treats with you!
--But, that way, the kitty does not associate you with only scary (to the kitty!) things.

Think like Mary Poppins - Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down....

OK, so cats cannot taste sweets (acc to recent studies) but they do like tuna and Pounce and other kinds of treats! I concur with the others - give her something good to associate with you as well!

Aw she'll get over it. (Unless you did something REALLY awful to her which you're not telling us...lol).

You just have to take it slowly and help matters along with some yummy kitty treats whenever you're there. Cats can hold killer grudges so don't be surprised if it takes a few visits to get her to come round. But she will, in time. Keep trying!

i know this sounds a little crazy, but i talk and sing to my kitten when i give him his medicine. he used to hate the syringe and now he runs to the kitchen when i get his medicine out of the fridge. i hold him like a baby, and talk/sing to him and administer the medicine in really small doses so he can swallow it all. afterward, i give him a spoonful of canned food or treats to further reward him. i think he enjoys the experience now.

good luck!

My Scaredy never got over it. He hates me to this day. Well, maybe he doesn't hate me, but he is scared of me. Also, I can't find any treats he will eat, so the treat trick won't work for him.

She will come around. For the past ten days I had to give Muffin clavmox because she had an UTI. She actually bit me 5 times. But she's over it.

You are not alone , trust me as my cat Taffy totally hates me after she comes back home from the vet and when I do her flea medicine every month she just runs away from me. I think all cats hate ya after you do a medical thing to them or give them a bath.

Its been about a week or so now and she seems to be coming around slowly. She doesent run away anymore but she still seems a little weary when I come close. It takes a few minuets of stoking her before she calms down and just enjoys it.

There is progree even though it is slow. I'm just gonna keep up with it until she loves me again
