Thank-you! I am going to try to get her in tomorrow morning. There are two vets around here that I can think of... one I REALLY don't want to take her to, and the other is where I will most likely take her if they are open and has an open spot.

I will update you when I get back tomorrow!

Thanks again!

Cassie

Just got back from the vet.... it's either an infection in the brain or CH. They gave her a shot of steriods and put her on antibiotics. If that doesn't clear it up, then she has CH. Also, Belle has a pretty bad case of it, if that's what it is. Unfortunately, if this doesn't clear it up, my vet believes it's best to do what's best for her. If she continues, the chances of her improving are slim to none, and her quality of life will be horrible. I really hope and pray that this clears it up. Please, continue to pray for my baby, Belle Starr.

Thank-you!
Cassie

So sorry to hear the news wasn't better. Fingers crossed it is an infection and that she gets better.

Well, I wanted to stick with the western theme.
There's Calamity Jane, Wild Bill, Annie Oakley, and Belle Starr!

I'm hoping it's curable Cassie. I'd hate for you to go through what we had to last October with our kitten Alexander. PTS at age 12 weeks because of severe bladder stones.

and
for Ms. Belle Starr! (Take some for yourself, too.)

Oh Cassie I'm so sorry to hear this! Ever since you started writing I've been so fond of your little family. I really am praying for the best for Belle Star.

I guess I don't know the whole story though. Sam said that Belle's problems might have something to do with inbreeding -- what did she mean?

Cassie, I've just now seen this thread. Sending mega good health vibes Belle's way. I'm glad you got to get her to the vet, I know that must have been so nerve racking not knowing if you'd be able to take her, you have a pretty good brother there!

Keeping my
for the best possible outcome for Belle.

Well, CJ and Billy are littermates, and Annie and Belle are their kittens. So... they are inbred. I asked my vet if all this could be from inbreeding, and was told that it's most likely not. This is from CJ being exposed to feline panleukopenia virus (feline distemper) while pregnant, which is known to damage the cerebellum. That's why Annie has a vestibular disease, Belle has CH, and Limeny, their brother, passed on to the RB.

This is what my vet explained to me:
The cerebellum controls all voluntary movement, such as standing straight, moving your arm, walking, and running, etc... When the panleukopenia virus attacks the cerebellum, it destroys part of it, causing the problems. It has nothing to do with their intelligence. Right under the cerebellum in the part of the brain that controls involuntary actions, such as breathing, blinking, heartbeat... when the panleukopenia destruction is severe, it can get down to this area... that's why Limeny died with a sluggish heartbeat. Annie's wasn't as severe, and she overcame it. Belle's we don't really know about too much right now, but her having an infection on top of it can cause more troubles... that's why she's on antibiotics, to see if it is an infection that can be knocked out. If there is an infection, it is adding on top of the CH, making it much much worse.

That's the info I have! Hope it clears it up!

Thank-you for your kind words and prayers! And thank-you everyone!

Cassie
