Help! I have an 8 week old kitten that I have been fostering for 5 weeks who has been at the vet since Tuesday. She has a high fever of unknown origin. She is eating, drinking, pooping & peeing fine but has a persistent fever.

The vet has rulled out Feline Leuk., it isn't pointing towards FIP & she doesn't have any URI symptoms (no sneezing, watery eyes or anything).

She appears to be very slightly anemic, but only a hair below what is considered normal.

Her two sisters are at my home and doing great.

She got vaccinated on the 28th of July and the vet said it might vaccine induced...? Have any of you had any experience with anything like this? Can a reaction to a vaccine still be around 2 weeks later? Help! I'm totally depressed about this and running out of money.

Wow, I have no idea what this could be. My foster agency covers all the vet bills for foster cats, can yours help out? Or maybe your vet can cut you a deal since it is for a good cause. Never hurts to ask.

I sure hope the kitty is feeling better soon. Poor baby!

Hi there... I unfortunately got stuck in the middle of a political mess at my foster agency. On Tuesday the board of the agency decided (after over 20 years) to disban. My kitty was at one of the vets the agency uses when the vet got the call to stop treating all pets from that foster agency. The option I was given was to take the kitten to the humane society. I was not going to do that because I knew what fate that would mean for Petunia.

I felt that I had the obligation to give her a chance to live and brought her to my own vet instead.

I can't see a vaccine reaction lasting two weeks and producing a high fever.

Thanks for your input. The good news is after being at the vet for 4-5 days she is now over her fever and back home! The other two fosters never got a fever, thank goodness. She is eating, playing and back to her old self. The vet wasn't able to determine where the fever came from but after fluids, meds, antibiotics, etc. she is doing much better. She has been out of the woods for exactly a week!

I am so glad that kitty is home and doing better. Did they ever figure out what caused the problem? What a mess, being in the middle of the political backlash while you're worrying about the poor thing at the vet's! Glad it all turned out in the end.
