I have posted here not long ago if I should get a kitten friend for my cat or not. Maya is 1 1/2-2 years old, we adopted her a few months ago and was just spayed in april. We couldn't decide if we should get her a friend, she is the princess in the house, but yet sometimes walks around kind of howling like she is looking for something.

A friends cat had kittens, and the mother doesn't want ot feed them so they need to be bottle fed, and asked if we could take one. So we are bringing a little one home tomorrow. We are taking Maya with us tomorrow morning on the trip to pick up the kitten(she has a vet app as well), and I wanted to ask some advice on how to get trough this safely.
Will they be ok in the car? If Maya was just recently spayed would she still have some maternal instincts and maybe be ok with the little one from the start? Should I keep them separated? And the one I worry about the most, would Maya hurt the little one if she doesn't like her? I mean intentionally?

Thanks guys
so anxious about this whole thing

I have a 3 year old male who never seemed interested in meeting other cats. In fact, when he saw other cats outside he would freak and pounce the glass door that separated them. So when a 12 week old kitten showed up on our doorstep we never imagined they'd become friends. After introducing them briefly we would put the kitten back outside and to our surprise our cat would cry at the door for the kitten! Now the kitten is inside full time and our cat is more active and playful than ever. He was a gigantic 16 1/2 lbs. and no diet food helped him to lose weigh. But now he is running all the time and finally he is getting back to a reasonable weight.

So it is possible for the two to get along. Just be sure to take it slow and monitor their interaction very carefully in the beginning. And I would suggest you keep them separated for a while. It took 3 weeks for us to leave the two alone together upsupervised. good luck!

How old is the kitten? You should probably have no problem. I brought a one day old to my house of cats, and that was a lot easier than bringing home a 8 week old=) Your cat will smell her and may hiss, but I know you won't have any problems with them together. She may even groom the kitten too!!

I wouldn't let your cat near the kitten until the kitten has been vet checked and given the all clear. Better safe than sorry.
