Well guys, I have some potentially very exciting news.

As you may have heard on the news, the military is "cracking down on sexual assault." Part of this crackdown is forming positions called "Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARCS)." SARCS oversee the victim advocates at each base and ensure that things are properly in place to best assist survivors of rape/sexual assault. It is primarly a leadership/management position.

Well, our SARC came to me in confidence today and stated that she will be giving her 2 weeks notice tomorrow and wanted to know if I'd be interested in interviewing for the job! Both she and our manager think I am the best qualified out of all of the advocates!!! I'd have to switch companies (it's a contract job), but both of them are making their recommendations about me to that contractor.

If I get the job, I would get a raise and I would not have to be on-call!!!
Though I'd miss working directly with clients, it is such a huge step for me because my ultimate goal is leadership and this is definitely a supervisory role (at not one, but TWO bases!)!!!

This'll happen very quickly because the spot can't stay vacant. So....if you can, please keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck! Hopefully I'll have some VERY good news for y'all VERY soon!!!

Oh my gosh!!! How exciting for you, Amy! Best of luck, though I'm sure you won't need it. You deserve a promotion and I'm sure you're perfect for this position!! It's wonderful to have people who actually CARE about the victims in the higher up positions.

Ooo! That is so awesome! And to have job where you get to help people that truly need it is fantastic! Just out of curiosity, will you also be dealing with sexual harrassment? I've always thought of it as one step toward assault. I just did a training for my students on sexual harrassment so it has been on my mind lately. Plus I have a military-sexual harrassment story I know of.

As of now, that is not a part of the contract. However, that would be a MAJOR goal of mine- to have sexual harrassment education added to the program. You are absolutely right- it very often may lead to sexual assault. And we all know we have an overabundance of BOTH in the military!

I hope you do get to accomplish that goal. If you do, please remember this...harrassmet goes both ways. I know a man that was being harrassed by a woman in his squadron...and in the end the man...the one being harrassed...had to brief the squadron on sexual harrassment. How dumb is that! I hope they get you in there quick! They need some help!
