We have just moved house and there are boxes etc everywhere. We have mostly finished unpacking, but anything we have that has any polystyrene - be it packing pieces, or big chunks like the ones that came in the box of my new printer - lately I have been catching Sashka eating it. It doesn't matter where I put it that I think is out of her reach, she gets into it anyway.

At the moment everything is out in the back shed where she doesn't go, because of Ruby, and I have been careful to go through the house and remove any pieces that I find that may have escaped, because she seems really obsessed and almost compelled to search it out and eat it if she can. And I don't mean play with it - I mean bite, chew and swallow. I am terrified she is going to inhale some and choke but I just can't keep her away from it. (Hence the reason it is now all out in the back shed).

Has anyone ever heard of this and could there possibly be anything it is that she needs that she is not getting in her diet???

Oh everything is out of her reach. She can't get to it anymore, I was just wondering if anyone might have an idea why she is so obsessed with it.

I am not positive but human tuna should be used sparingly in cats cause it can cause some deficiancys

Well, I was always a bit suspicious of it but it was a diet my Mum started her on when Sashka was living with her for a few months while I was in between houses. She all of a sudden grew quite a lot, and her coat became even more shiny and lustrous and we thought it was great. But I've done a bit of reading today and it is not recommended to feed cats too much tuna that is designed for human consumption because it doesn't contain enough Vitamin E. So I'm going to put her back on the diet that she was on before.
