I brought this up when I first tried it, but that was a few months ago. I'm curious - how many of us use self-tanning lotions (artificial tanning), the sun, tanning beds, or just keep your natural color? I'd make a poll, but I don't know how.

Also, which of these products have you used and would/would not recommend?

I like to get my tan straight from the sun. I've never been to a tanning salon or used any tanning lotions. The lotions have never impressed me with the way they turn out! As far as tanning beds are concerned, I've never had the desire to try "cancer in a box" because my personal belief is that if you're going to subject yourself to the risks of skin cancer, why do it in some salon when there are much more beautiful and relaxing places to get the same effect? If I end up with cancer one day from tanning, I would hate to think that it was caused while I was lying (or standing) in an enclosed space instead of inhaling the salt air, lying on the sand watching crabs and birds, and splashing about in the waves. As far as suntan lotions, I really think that Hawaiian Tropic is the best for keeping yourself from burning while still managing to get a great tan. I've used their Dark Tanning SPF4 for a few years now and have never burned while wearing it. I've even stayed at the beach for 5 HOURS with this stuff on and STILL no burn! It has allowed me to get some AMAZING tans over the years. I was even called, "shockingly tan" one summer and I really have that Hawaiian Tropic stuff to thank. Not only that, but unlike Australian Gold it stays IN your skin even when you sweat. When I tried the Australian Gold equivelant to my Hawaiian Tropic it would sweat out each and every time. It was also very greasy and I couldn't WAIT to finish up the bottle.

As you can see I have some serious opinions about tanning.
I can't help it, it's what I grew up with!

Ooh also, the Hawaiian Tropic plant is in Daytona Beach so you should be able to get their products cheaper than most other lotions (since I know you're in Florida as well).

I'll shut up now.

I didn't know Hawiian Tropic was made in Dayton Beach! Ocean Potion is made in Melbourne, FL. I LOVE the smell. I like their products in general, but I never was accused of being "shockingly tan"
(I can only dream...)

I admit I now use the fake stuff. I just started this year for several reasons. 1) my daytime job doesn't give me much time for fun in the sun and Sundays we have a standing cookout 2) My almost 46 year old skin doesn't really need more sun
3) its safe 4) a friend has a really nice golden tan that I always thought was real, but its a "Loreal tan!!!

Thats what I use now. Loreal gel or lotion. I started with the towelettes, but then progressed to something a little richer.

If I ever get to the beach again... maybe I'll try Hawiian Tropic.

I used lotion once when for my sister's wedding... I was a bridesmaid. Most the time I just go with my natural skin color. Sometimes I sun tan... but I don't tan easily... I just burn!

Loreal is such a nice brand that I'm not all that surprised that it looks nice!

Yup, Hawaiian Tropic is made in Daytona, and Ron Rice (the creator) actually lives in my hometown of Ormond Beach! He's got a huge house right on the beach. I actually went on his yacht once and his then 8 year old daughter (I was 16 at the time I think) was there. Let me tell you....B-R-A-T and definitely not going to grow up to be Hawaiian Tropic Model material! Her name was Sterling...hmmm...perhaps I should add her to the "awful names" thread!
Definitely check out some of their products though. I really love them!

Funny you met him because I met the owner of Ocean Potion! He and his girlfriend (or wife?) skidded and dropped ther bike on the way into the parking lot where my BF and I were. My BF helped him get the bike up and then check to make sure his girl was ok
. Anyway, a friend mentioned who he was. I told him that my Mom visited me from CT and tried my tanning lotion and used Ocean Potion products ever since. He sent her a huge basket with all kinds of OP products, tee-shirts, etc. the whole works! Nice guy!

I'm a very fair-skinned, freckled, redhead, so a deep, dark tan is out of the realm of possibily for me. I just go with my natural color on my upper body. I have a theory that someday my freckles will merge together into a nice tan.

My legs, though, won't tan or even freckle. They're totally fish-belly white! I've tried many self-tanners, but they come out uneven and orangey on me. Just about a week ago I started using the Jergens Natural Glow lotion. So far I love it. It works gradually, so you have a chance to even out any darker spots as you go. It's a subtle difference...not exactly a Coppertone tan...but it is just enough to cut the glare.

I lilke to get my tan in the natural sun and then sometimes in the winter I'll go to the tanning beds. (not very often), I've tried the self tanning lotions and I found that the Coppertone brand worked good for me.

I've tried to use sunless tanners but they don't last and turn me orange. tanning beds are too expensive and have been burning lately. The color does last like it use to.
