Hello everyone! Remember Saffy? We had to take her in for an emergency c-section. Well five days later she was not acting right so we took her back to the vet and she had an infected uterous and had to have an emergency spay. (The vet did do want to spay her at the time of the c-sec to keep her milk from drying up and he felt she had already been through too much.)

Well Saffy has been the most loving fantastic mother you would ever want to see. Then yesterday I noticed she had what looked like innards potruding from her stomach. Back to the vet we went. Poor Saffy had to have yet another surgery. Doc said he had never seen a cat's muscles eat away at the stitches like hers had done. Well, besides putting her on an antibiotic, he gave her some meds to keep her quiet so she could heal up without being in as much pain. He sent me home with formula and bottles for the kittens. They are not liking the botlles!

Any tips or tricks on getting them to like the bottles better? I have been cotton swabbing their hineys and thy have been going so that is good!

I would reallllllllly appreciate any tips!

Thank you all!

How old are the kittens? Are the nipples pierced correctly? Sometimes they close in on themselves, is the formula warmed or at room temperature? Are you microwaving the formula (if you do, it will spoil) www.kitten-rescue.com will give you tips on bottle feeding. Are you feeding them while they are on their belly? That is the correct way-

The kittens are two weeks old today. I have been warming the formula in hot water until it is slightly warmer that body temperature and giving them the bottles while they are on their stomachs.

I hoping they are just being a little resistent and will take to it better the more we try.

Thank you for the link!

Are the babies doing ok? I'm sure you are very busy with bottle feeding them, but please post when you can! I don't have any experience, so can't offer advice, but I will say a prayer for these precious babies, their poor Momma, and you!

I Am A Novice Too But Now I Have Been Doing This On And Off As Need Be For A Siamese With 10 Kittens. I Too Had The Same Problem And Was Warming Formula In A Cup Of Hot Water But I Note As The Kittens (now 4 Weeks Old) Become Older They Get More Used To Or More Hungry For The Formula And Except For Very Weak Ones--they Are Now Ravaging The Bottles. ( I Have 3 Weak Runts And All The Rest Are Giants Now). The Runts Still Are A Hard Time About The Bottle. It Will Get Better, Just Don't Give Up. It Also Helps To Put A Little Pressure On The Bottle So The Milk Flows And Rather Than Piercing The Second Bottle We Bought, I Cut It Cross Scizzor Wize. That Works Much Better. Remember To Give Them Breathers On Your Shoulder To Burp Too. They Are Babies And Have To Too. So Far That Is Everything I Have Learned Along With 1 Other Thing--the Formulas Some Are Good 1 Hour Only, Others 2 Hours, Some 24 And You Don't Want To Feed Anything That Is Spoiled. Also Keep Using The Cup To Warm In Because You Can't Boil Or Microwave The Milk Or It Will Spoil. Wish I Knew More. Still Learning. Bev

The babies are doing great! I did the criss-cross cut on the nipples and they just go to town on the bottle now!

Thanks again everyone.
