Freckles is hiding under the table

I've had Freckles for 5 weeks now, and he seems to be getting more distant. At first he would sleep with me all night and sit on the couch with me. Since his dental surgery last week he stays under the kitchen table in a box. He will come out to eat, and I now have to chase him to give him his medicine. He's not hostile to me, but I feel that I have failed in some way and he's rejecting me. My other cat Bob has wrestled with him in the past, and I wonder if that's a part of it. (Bob is half Freckles age and twice his size.)

Have you tried just ignoring him? Maybe the attention he's getting, including being given medication etc, is stressing him out. Cats tend to dislike being ignored, and their natural curiosity should get the better of them eventually!
