So sad. Sometimes it seems like some families have to suffer more than others doesn't it?
My aunt married a man whose first wife had died of cancer, and his youngest daughter had had leukemia when she was 6, but had recovered. A few years ago, the same daughter, now my step-cousin, was diagnosed with MS (she's only 26!) and then, even more sadly, my aunt's husband was diagnosed with colon cancer and died several months ago.
I still can't quite believe how much sadness has come to this one family--nor to the Reeves. I believe their son is only about twelve. So sad.

Of course yes, this is very sad. My first thought was that she must be/must have been a smoker. We have known for a long time that smoking causes lung cancer.

This reminds me of the "Do you think there is racial profiling in missing persons reports?" thread. I said in that thread I thought whoever had a lot of money got the most coverage. I feel the same way about all these celebrities feeling they have to "announce" their illnesses. No one would listen to them if they didn't have a pile of cash. You don't hear it on the news when your neighbor gets diagnosed with anything, I don't see why we owe celebrities special interest.

Actually, she isn't a smoker.

Right, she falls in the 15% of people who get lung cancer but don't smoke.

Actually, she stated that she wasn't going to release this info, she did it because a tabloid was about to, and we all know how tabloids twist the truth.

Apparently- of the 15% of non-smokers who get lung cancer, 2 out of 3 are females.

I know, after all of this lung cancer scare, there's no way I'm going to go anywhere near smokers ever again!
I so hope Chicago passes the smoking ban in restaurants and bars that many other states have already passed.

I have always thought that many of the 15% suffer from secondary smoking - living and working with smokers.

Yes that is very true you can get lung cancer and not be a smoker. I thought for sure she was too pretty and her skin looked too good for her to be a smoker.

I heard she has never smoke either. How very sad. That family sure has had their share of heartbreak.

How terrible!, that whole family has had so much tradegy.

I feel very sad for her and the children.

We had the "smoking" discussion at work yesterday. I was not at all surprised to hear that she was not a smoker, and I am pretty sure her husband didn't smoke either.

The fact that they are planning surgery and either radiation or chemo says that the doctor's feel it is treatable. I certainly hope so!

We also discussed the fact that here is a family that is immensely rich, and world famous. They are definitely beautiful people. They speak well, seem to be quite intelligent, and just seem to be good people. In general, have a lot going for them. But I'm sure they would have gladly given up all the fame and wealth for good health! This is just sad, as it is for every family that is struck by this illness.

It's weird that she has lung cancer. She's a singer and a non smoker. I think she'll beat it.
